it starts "connecting" and then tells me that there was a "communication error." I was having this same problem a few months ago when I downloaded the MS Office Pro 2007 trial. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/822519 Eventually it just worked one day. Yesterday, I bought the real version of Microsoft Office Pro, and activation went just fine, no communication errors. Microsoft's solutions, on its webpage because apparently there is no telephone support for the trial versions, is to check my firewall settings (done) or to activate by telephone (not possible.) Anyone? Thanks, Elizabeth P.S. I'm running Windows XP, I http://www.office-forums.com/threads/communication-error-during-activation.83738/ use Firefox 2.0 but also have IE available, and I have a cable connection through Time Warner. This process is called activation. If activation is successful, you can continue to use Office with all features enabled. If activation fails, Office eventually enters reduced functionality mode and displays (Unlicensed Product) or (Non-commercial use) (Unlicensed Product) in the title bar, and most buttons and features are disabled (grayed out). Reduced functionality mode helps prevent software piracy while still allowing you to view and print your Office files. Tip: Do you ne

Solved Unable to activate Office product - Error number 701098 Posted on 2010-02-25 MS Office Windows 7 2 Verified Solutions 4 Comments 3,094 Views Last Modified: 2012-06-21 Hello, I am unable to activate copies of Office 2007 Small Business on several brand new Dell Latitude E6500 laptops with Windows 7. These are Retail copies of Office. This is the error message I am getting: "A communication error has occurred. Your request cannot be processed at this time. Please try again in a few minutes." The error number when pressing CTRL+SHIFT+I is 701098 I already read the KB article detailing this problem from Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822519) as well as the Experts Exchange solution (http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Office_Productivity/Office_Suites/MS_Office/Q_24966686.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+701098) However, these solutions do not appear to apply to my situation, or I am unable to implement them. There is no proxy server on the network - all clients connect directly through a TZ-180 SonicWall gateway, which is also the DHCP server. A Win2k3 server is the domain controller and provides DNS. There is no other Firewall limitation I am aware of and all other Internet functions appear to work fine. The odd part is, the activation works on all Windows XP Pro PCs on the domain, which leads me to believe this is a Windows 7 problem. Activating by phone isn't a good option
