new user so please excuse any glaring errorsI have installed OpenVPN on a machine at home. I have forwarded ports 1194 and 443 on my router to the vm appliance hosting openvpn. I can see openvpn no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it using dyndns's port checker that my port 443 is open - however when I try and connect from a client at work I get the following error:unable to obtain session id from xxx port=443 xml-rpc: timeouterrorMy work have a proxy server but I am reliably told that 443 is allowed out.I can get to my 'admin' page from work also.Does anyone have any suggestions? Note that openvpn supports the use of HTTP and SOCKS proxies. It shows as being openvpn-connect-1.8.0.msithank you for the link. is this just the client? when I downloaded it and opened it, it seemed to be the whole server install - is there a way I can just install the client from there? I wanted to use the vm appliance as I didn't want to use a whole new windows-based vm to run this.Ben Top janjust Forum Team Posts: 2702 Joined: Fri Aug 20, 2010 2:57 pm Location:

However, it looks like the OpenVPN client can only connect if I use unable to obtain both TCP and UDP on their default ports (443 and 1194, respectively). So these are the only settings that work at the moment: If I change the protocol, or the ports used, the connection is refused. Looking into the logs, I see entries like these: 2015-01-09 17:05:04+0000 [Uninitialized] DynamicClientBase: Unable to obtain Session ID from u'192.168.0.13', port(s)=443: XML-RPC: ConnectionRefusedError: 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it..: So it looks like the client (OpenVPN Connect on Windows) is trying to use the default ports. How can I make the OpenVPN client work when using UDP only and a different port? vpn openvpn share|improve this question asked Jan 9 '15 at 20:16 user1301428 1,75042247 1 Why are you even using OpenVPN Connect? That’s not the “real” client. If you want to fully utilize OpenVPN, you need to use the Open Source client. –Daniel B Jan 9 '15 at 20:22 1 Furthermore, did you download a new client like warning indicated? The new client will have a new built-in configuration file that recognizes the chages you did on the access server. Your existing client is likely still using the old configuration. &nd
