I previously had the 1st generation 15" MacBook Pro. I restored everything I had on my 15" to my new 17" through the Time Machine backup I had. Everything went smoothly. All applications are functional. The only problem http://kb.parallels.com/en/114589 is when I start Parallels (4.0.3810.351321), I get a message box (see title) that stays on the screen until I click OK. The box also contains the following message : "A file or device required for the operation of CD/DVD-ROM-1 does not exist or is used by another process, or you have no permission to access it. The virtual machine will continue running, but the device will be disconnected". Funny https://forum.parallels.com/threads/unable-to-connect-cd-dvd-rom-1.88559/ thing, I can read any CD/DVD on my diskdrive, but the drive icon itself appears (in my windows explorer) as being an outside drive or server??? An if I click on the CD/DVD drive, I am told to insert a disk in drive D. Any thoughts on this? Thank you Christian tc004056, Mar 13, 2009 #1 galochka Messages: 187 Hello tc004056, Most probably if you migrate all data from old Mac in settings of Parallels desktop still the same CD/DVD-ROM as on your old Mac. Please do the following: Configure -> CD/DVD -ROM 1 -> remove ("-") after that click OK -> "+" -> CD/DVD-ROM ->Real Device -> connected-> Select Drive How many Virtual machines do you have? Also please check -> Devices -> CD/DVD -ROM what do you have there (real device or image), probably there is image and it is used by other application. We are looing forward to the reply from you. galochka, Mar 13, 2009 #2 tc004056 Messages: 7 Hello Galochka, Your posted solution works out perfectly. Everything is back as usual. And now the CD/DVD icon shows (in Windows Explorer) the content of this disk drive. Thanks again TC004056 tc004056, Mar 16, 2009 #3 Tanker10a Messages: 15 Have you

At some point, without me upgrading s/w or knowingly changing anything, Parallels stopped being able to recognize the drive. I get this error:"Unable to connect CD/DVD 1.A file or device required for the operation of CD/DVD 1 does not exist or is used by another process, or you unable to have no permission to access it. The virtual machine will continue running, but the device will be disconnected."I've tried what I can find to try from Googling this problem, but no luck. I have a MacBook Pro, running MAC OS 10.6.8, and Parallels 7 (running WinXP 32 in the VM).If anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it! Thanks!!!Daka MacBook Pro, Mac unable to connect OS X (10.6.8) Posted on May 8, 2012 11:10 AM I have this question too Close Q: Parallels "Unable to connect to CD/DVD 1" All replies Helpful answers by Templeton Peck, Templeton Peck May 8, 2012 2:00 PM in response to daka16 Level 9 (62,070 points) May 8, 2012 2:00 PM in response to daka16 I suggest you post your question on the Parallels forums as its their softare you're having issues with: http://forums.parallels.com Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by herbertsont, herbertsont Jan 12, 2013 5:51 AM in response to daka16 Level 1 (0 points) Jan 12, 2013 5:51 AM in response to daka16 Two articles at Parallels support might apply:http://kb.parallels.com/en/112209http://kb.parallels.com/114589The first one helped me when I saw the problem after reconfiguring my USB hubs. My external HP DVD drive showed up twice in the Physical CD/Drives list. I changed to the Default, then after that the HP drive showed up only once, and I could then reconnect to it.Message was edited by: herbertsont Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by GrampsUK, GrampsUK Ma
