file? Q: Where can I obtain scripts and programs to integrate pgp with my email or news reading system? Q: How can I decrypt messages I've http://www.pgp.net/pgpnet/pgp-faq/pgp-faq-common-problems.html encrypted to others? Q: Why can't I generate a key with PGP for Unix? Q: When I clearsign a document in PGP, it adds a "dash-space" to several of my lines. Why? Q: How http://alt.security.pgp.narkive.com/QdfMlqLo/pgp-errors do I encrypt more than one file at a time with the commandline version? Q: How can I give my passphrase to the commandline PGP automatically? Q: How come randseed.bin got "infected" by a unable to virus? Q: How do I determine if the PGP commandline worked? Q: Why does PGP no longer ask for random keystrokes? Q: Why can't a person using version 2.3 read my version 2.6 message? Q: Why does PGP 2.x complain about checking signatures every so often? Q: Are PGP 2.6.x, PGP 5.x and higher, and GNU Privacy Guard interoperable? A: By and large, all PGP 2.x, 5.x unable to open and GPGs kan interoperate if: Only RSA keys are used, of at most 2048 bits length, MD5 is used as hash algorithm IDEA is used for the symmetrical algorithm. For GNU Privacy Guard, this usually means that you need to add the IDEA module as detailed in the GPG FAQ. RSA support is included by default as of version 1.0.3. Newer GPG versions include a --pgp2 option to restrict the output to things that PGP 2.x understands. A: GNU Privacy Guard and PGP 5.x and higher are by and large OpenPGP compliant and interoperable. Q: Why does it take so long to encrypt/decrypt messages? A: This problem can arise when you have placed the entire public key ring from one of the servers into your local pubring.pgp file. PGP may have to search through several thousand keys to find the one that it is after. If you need to have these large keyrings (e.g. because you cannot count on being able to contact the keyservers to look up new keys), the solution to this dilemma is to maintain 2 public key rings (See How do I create a secondary key file?). The first ring, the normal pubring.pgp file, should contain on

I have no idea what I'm doing (super newbie here) solaugh...and help if you can.Error 1: One of my staff typically runs a successful decryption of afile....until last week when the error "could not open default keyrings. Another application might have them open?" showed up.You don't state which operating system you are using, but in case ofWindows XP I would suggest restoring the system to an earlier safepointwhere the PGP application still worked. What you could also try is to uninstall PGP (make a backup of all secretkeyrings first!!) and delete all directories associated with it. Thenreinstall (this worked for Zonealarm issue on a computer I help arelative with to keep it working recently (it kept crashing when Iconnected to the internet)).hth,Thomas- --"Nothing is true.
