Any ideas Thanks! Posts: 14Joined: Sat Sep 08, 2012 9:35 am by Gordon2 » Tue Feb 05, 2013 3:43 am Thats in the log files, right? I have seen most if not all of them yet everything seems to be working OK here.. I think most or all are not critical messages. For example I get the x11 error when I'm only using bash shell, (no x11, startx involved), so I guess I dont care about that "error". Have you noticed problems with audio? I'm running oneiric. for this i need mpd running and playing sound through pulseaudio. I resarched quite a bit and now i'm stuck. what i found out. You should not run pulseaudio as a system daemon. so i tried to run mpd with pulseaudio under the mpd user. when i start mpd it claims it can't connect to pulseaudio. when i run Code: pulseaudio -D it says it can't connect to DBus. I found out that pulseaudio since a few versions requires a dbus connection. when i run Code: pulseaudio -D as a normal desktop user pulseaudio can connect to dbus. But i don't know where i can give the mpd user permissions to connect (or start) a dbus daemon... that's where i'm stuck. switching mpd to using alsa doesn't work either as lightdm starts pulseaudio so alsa says that the resource is already busy. Collaborator thomasf commented Nov 23, 2015 if you have an x session running on the system you can specify it when starting the command like this DISPLAY=:0 pa-mixer-command DISPLAY should be equal to what echo pulseaudio org.freedesktop.dbus.error.not supported $DISPLAY outputs in the desktop environment. Owner mk-fg commented Nov 23, 2015 Yeah, I think specifying DISPLAY can work for case when dbus gets auto-launched in the X session. If it gets started from some kind of session-wrapper script or "systemd --user" daemon though, I think dbus socket path should be unrelated to DISPLAY (e.g. tied to systemd session, in the latter case). man dbus-launch describes such things iirc If your use-case falls under the latter (DISPLAY-independent) category, I think setting DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS directly might be a better option, for example (with systemd session): export DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS=unix:path=/run/user/$USER/bus Owner mk-fg commented Nov 23, 2015 My main interreset in pulseaudio-mixer-cli is to be able to remotely adjust pa levels, which seems to be defied by the dependancy to start this dbus daemon? Re-reading this, realized that maybe your use-case is running pulseaudio without desktop, so you don't have dbus session daemon running at all, same for DISPLAY and such. Script communicates with pa via dbus only (would be cool if it didn't, but iirc there was no easy lib for pa control protocol), so guess options here are: Start dbus daemon with pa daemon. I suspect that enabling dbus module in pulse (as mentioned in the READ
