To do so follow the next steps: -- Open Notepad -- copy the following commands net stop wuauserv regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 wups.dll regsvr32 wups2.dll regsvr32 wuweb.dll net start wuauserv -- paste them in notepad -- On menu, click on File -- select save as -- on box that pops up, find the on save as type box at bottom of box and make sure to select all files -- On File name box at bottom, type update.fix -- add extension .bat to end of name, it should look like the following: update.fix.bat -- select a place to sav

If you do, windows update error you may be getting a group policy for WSUS, which buggars up the Windows Update applet for Vista. Once you get this policy, you can no longer visit the Windows Update/Microsoft Update website. (Doh.) You can fix it by whacking the policy, but a more permanant solution would be to update to the v7 WUMU client. Manually download the v7 WUMU client and install it. http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7...gent30-x86.exe Run the WindowsUpdate again. You will see a new hyperlink in the Windows Update applet to 'check for updates directly from the Microsoft Website' or something very similar. Try that link if the normal process doesn't work.
