The error that is showing in my error log is AH00124: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Thats really all anyone can tell you from that error. You'll need to check your logs to determine the exact reason for the failure. –Lego Stormtroopr Jun 19 '13 at 1:52 But i don't have any script for the wrong-url.php that is just an example that wrong url is entered, just assume that i have two pages, and home and contact, and i have entered a wrong url, it should go to 404 instead of 500 –Angela Taylor Jun 19 '13 at 1:56 Is the .htaccess in the root, or in myweb/? Do you have it in the root, and nother in myweb/? –jprofitt Jun 19 '13 at 1:59 @jprofitt its in the myweb directory not in the root, because in my locallhost i have multiple websites so .htacess for this website is in its respective folder –Angela Taylor Jun 19 '13 at 2:27 Do you have access to the error log? Long story short, when I try to visit a non-existent page on my site, I get a 500 error instead of 404. I checked the error logs and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/17181671/500-internal-server-error-instead-of-404 they had nothing; no, really. They were blank. I checked the .htaccess file and it checked out (I had other issues with them that I was able to resolve). As of right now, this is the only issue I am having.I did find, when the issue first became known to me, that trying to visit a non-existent page returned a 500 error and "Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an http://echochamber.me/viewtopic.php?t=107751 ErrorDocument to handle the request." I edited the .htaccess file as stated before. I still get the first 500 error, but it managed to find the 500 error page. Want to check for yourself?This is the 404 error page: http://www.muknot.com/404.phpThis page doesn't exist: http://www.muknot.com/no.phpCode: Select allErrorDocument 404 http://www.muknot.com/404.php

I have probed around the problematic .htaccess file and found that the following block of code is causing the problem:Code: Select all# Pass all requests not referring directly to files in the filesystem to
# index.php. Clean URLs are handled in drupal_environment_initialize().
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !=/favicon.ico
RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]If I comment that last line, the other sites work correctly. But then the main site doesn't. But then I uncomment the following line, leaving the former commented, everything works:Code: Select all# Make Drupal handle any 404 errors.
#ErrorDocument 404 /index.phpSo:Code: Select allRewriteRule ^ index.php

For example If I'm trying to access non-existing theme like http://example.org/wp-content/themes/iamnothere/, I'll get a 500 Internal server error response instead of 404 error. Error log says: Request exceeded the limit of 10 internal redirects due to probable configuration error. Any ideas what could cause behavior like this? This has nothing to do with WordPress directly. However, to get to the bottom of this, please check your hosting error logs and post the errors that are there. Look forward to seeing those errors and possibly offering a solution. Please advise. Cheers, Joe valu Design Lord, Child of Thor 53 pts 61 pts LEVEL 3 Hi, Thank you for quick reply - there is nothing in the error logs, but these internal redirect related errors I mentioned in my first post. I think that this is not a server issue, because I have tested this in five different servers and same problem occurs in each and every of them. Moreover, if WordPress needs more than 10 internal redirects in order to get 404 page displayed, I think this has something to do wit
