make sure you’re logged in as a Local Administrator. When I mean Local administrator, I mean that to say that you need to login as Local administrator - not Domain administrator. Because even if you are a Domain administrator, sometimes Domain policies will restrict access to certain locations. For instance, if you are installing Microsoft SQL Server, it’s highly recommend that you ensure that you are logged into the machine as Local administrator, otherwise you might get a lot of error terminating process access is denied error message including Microsoft SQL Service Fails to start. Error 5. Access is denied up vote 0 down vote favorite I'm wanting to install softwares. I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I have tried: Turning off the User Access Control (UAC) Right click and Run as Administrator Run installer in compatibility mode (Windows XP SP3 and Windows Vista SP2) access is denied Give permission to all temporary folders available (C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp) Relocate the temporary folder to C:\temp and give it the permission Take control of temporary folders Creating a new administrator account and installing from that account Checking the registry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSession (there's nothing there though) Also in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENT CONTROL SET\SERVICES\MSIserver\WOW64 (still nothing) Running MalwareBytes and scan for suspicious files that may block the installing process. Some example are node.js and Audacity. –deathlock Nov 17 '13 at 13:13 The only way for me to install software is to download/use the packaged .zip version of t

Windows 7: Error 5: Access is denied when try to install programs Page 1 of 5 1 23 > Last » 30 Jan 2010 #1 Emily7 Windows 7 28 posts North Carolina Error 5: Access is denied when try to install programs I hope this is the right place for this question...didn't see another sub-forum that sounded appropriate. Today I was having networking problems, and thanks to some help over on the Networking sub-forum, changed my workgroup to MSHOME so I could see Windows XP systems on my network from my new HP Windows 7 (Home Premium) laptop. Good stuff. However...I may have broken something pretty serious. My account is set up as an administrator, and I have always been able to do whatever I desired on my system. Now I can't install programs at all. Every one I try, I get an "access is denied" message. For example, when I try to (re)install winmail-reader-setup.exe, I get "Unable to execute file in the temporary directory. Setup aborted. Error 5: Access is denied" What in the world have I done?! I have checked my account, folder privileges, etc, and nothing looks amiss except that I have two "unknown" user accounts that I haven't seen before...not sure how those got there. But I'm running with my own account, with full privileges, administrator access. Any ideas? Thanks very much!
