Jun 17, 2009 08:31 AM|sparkymark75|LINK I've migrated a few ASP.NET 2 pages from a development server https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/871179 to production and configured them the same. However I can't get access to the production pages, with the error in the subject of this post being returned after 3 prompts for credentials. The web server is a W2K3 SP2 server. The website has a hostname setup and associated with it and DNS is configured appropriately. The website has it's own application pool which uses a domain account. The domain account being used is a member https://forums.iis.net/t/1158499.aspx?Yet+another+HTTP+Error+401+1+Unauthorized+Access+is+denied+due+to+invalid+credentials+ of the local IIS_WPG group and is also being used without problem in another application pool on the same server. The website has been configured to use Windows Authentication and the web.config file is also set to use this. I did initially think that I may need to follow the MS KB article which details how to perform the DisableLoopbackCheck registry change but I have other websites on this server configured in a similar manner (domain account for apppool, hostname used on site) and they function without issue. iis unauthorized 401.1 host Reply ganeshanekar 542 Posts Re: Yet another HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. Download Procmon from www.sysinternals.com and reproduce the issue and check for "Access Denied" errors and fix those. If it does not help, enable Failure auditing from Local GP and check security event logs for failures. HTH. ~ Ganesh Please: Don't forget to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helped you. One of the requirements is to have "Integrated Windows Authentication" disabled on the Virtual directory. http://localhost/test.html When I disable that, I get a error 401.1 on the IIS root's test.html, which consists of "Hello access is denied World" You are not authorized to view this page You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Please try the following: •Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page. •Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials. HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. Internet Information Services (IIS) When IWM is enabled, the website works like a gem. Does anyone know what is the root cause? This doesn't appear to be an issue with my app since even the default test.html fails with authentication asp.net iis iis-6 http-status-code-401 share|improve this question asked Dec 13 '13 at 16:10 Kyle 48841430 1 microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/… perhaps? –Joachim Isaksson Dec 13 '13 at 16:16 Anonymous access was already enabled by default –Kyle Dec 13 '13 at 16:27 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote You will most likely need to set the correct folder permissions for the 'Anonymous' user on the folder you are accessing. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/f594e137-e2da-4b22-ab58-f8edba938802.mspx?mfr=true ed
