Every time IIS (Internet Information Services) is given a folder to access with information on a website, the 403 error page will appear if the right permissions are not given to the folder. I am setting up a simple website on Windows Server 2008 R2 under IIS 7.5 using the "ASP.NET v4.0" pool. I am setting this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11111911/iis-7-5-403-forbidden up as an application under Default Web Site with a different root. I keep getting the 403 Forbidden error. I have: Installed asp.net using aspnet_regiis.exe -i (many times) Made sure my root directory (physical path) has permissions for "IIS_IUSR" and "IUSR" users. Made sure "Anonymous Authentication" is enabled and set to "Application Pool Identity" I have restarted IIS numerous times I have checked and double-checked every other configuration. What's strange is that I have another application under Default Web Site and it works just fine. Any suggestions will help. This shouldn't be so hard unless I am missing something obvious. asp.net windows iis iis-7.5 share|improve this question edited Jun 20 '12 at 12:24 asked Jun 20 '12 at 2:05 dotnetster 8811818 Questions on professional server- or networking-related infrastructure administration are off-topic for Stack Overflow unless they directly involve programming or programming tools. The backend weblogic application which I use has a login page as a starter page. When I call the page through IIS7, it redirects my requests to weblogic and I see login page. When I try to login with correct pass&user name pair everthing goes fine I can use the system without any problem. However when I try to login with access is denied wrong credentials, IIS shows me defaul 403 permission denied page instead of my weblogic applications login error page. When I dig the problem a litte bit, I found out that weblogic replys my wrong login attempt with a 403 message which already includes weblogic applications login failed page and when IIS see 403 message, it discards the page in it and just sends me pure 403 response (I've deleted IIS's fancy 403 error message, as well) Is there any way that iis7 to redirect all requests and responeses without processing it? Changing the reply message code of weblogic application is out of question, unfortunately. iis-7 share|improve this question asked Nov 5 '10 at 7:22 goktan 5528 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote We had an issue where IIS 7 was catching errors responses sent back by weblogic through the ISAPI filter. For example if you put the wrong log in credentials to the log in page. IIS was returning a custom 403 error page and not sending back our apps log in page in weblogic. This is due to IIS 7 handling custom error codes and sending back its own error pages. See more info at http://www.iis.net/ConfigReference/system.webServer/httpErrors In order to correct this behavior, we had to set the existingResponse='PassThrough' in t
Finding and Fixing the Source A 403 Forbidden error is a particular type of error that occurs when trying to access a URL. If you’re seeing a 403 Forbidden error, there are two possible causes. It could be due to a deliberate restriction of that particular resource - for example, removal of file permission, or restriction of access based on the IP address of the user. The second possible cause is accidental misconfiguration of the webserver such as Apache or IIS. This article will demonstrate the various restrictions and configurations that could cause it. We’ll be using an Apache web server, IIS 7.5 on the server side, and Google Chrome as the client side browser. What type of restrictions or configurations could be causing 403 error? Lack of file or resource permissions. IP restriction (country-based, or a single IP restriction) Other server side misconfiguration issues. Lack of File or Resource Permissions. As mentioned, a lack of proper permission access to the file or resource can cause 403 forbidden error. This will result in a 403 error, sometimes combined with a 404 file not found error stating the following message: “Forbidden You don't have permission to access /asd.html on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.” However, the title of the web page will display a 403 Forbidden error. Fixing File or Folder Permission in order to rectify a http 403 Forbidden error To fix a http 403 error, you should set proper permissions for a folder or a file. Normal file permission is 644 and folder permission is 755. File/folder permissions can be set using variety of ways. In Windows Web Hosting, it’s simply set using IIS. In Linux web hosting you can change permissions using terminal and chmod command. How to Set permissions using IIS 7.5 in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Open Internet Information Service Manager: Select the relevant website or folder, and set the necessary permissions via “Edit Permissions”. However, if you are using shared hosting, yo
