I published my ASP.NET MVC 3 application (It was just the internet template without any changes to it) to see if I could get it to work publically. However, when I visit the

site it shows up with a 403 error. Coming from a php/linux background, I'm confused and have no clue where to look. I've only been learning .NET for about 8-9 months and everything I've been testing on before was on the local development server through VS2010. It almost appears like the server doesnt know it should be an MVC application or I have to change my routing. Anyway, I checked to make sure that the server setting is .NET 4. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ALSO, It's a shared hosting environment using arvixe. asp.net .net asp.net-mvc-3 iis share|improve this question asked Jun 15 '12 at 0:27 Anonymous 1,01821328 add a comment| 7 Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 42 down vote accepted For me this did the trick (Original Answer by Mmerrell at Getting 404.0 error for ASP.NET MVC 3 app on IIS 7.0 / Windows Server 2008 ) You actually just reminded me that I needed to fix this issue in an enviroment here. Now I have a requirement which forces me to deploy to an IIS7 inmiddle of development (to check some features). I'm getting the above mentioned error message whenever http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1741439/asp-mvc-in-iis-7-results-in-http-error-403-14-forbidden I try to type the URL of the web site. (Note: development machine: Vista Home Premium, IIS7) What I have done until now: Edited the HOSTS file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts). Put two domains in it (127.0.0.1 domain1.com & 127.0.0.1 domain2.com). Created a folder c:\websites\dirOfApplication and deployed from within Visual Studio 8 to this folder. In IIS7 created a new site with host name domain1.com and application folder the above. Typing the address domain1.com in Web browser results in the above error (HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden - The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.) I think I'm missing something but don't know what! Tryed to deploy the files System.Web.Mvc, System.Web.Abstraction & System.Web.Routing wit the same outcome. Whenever I try to hit F5 and run the application, it works fine! asp.net-mvc iis hosting share|improve this question edited Mar 2 '14 at 8:17 psubsee2003 5,71963557 asked Nov 16 '09 at 10:53 savvas sopiadis 7252710 possible duplicate of ASP.NET MVC on IIS 7.5 –Sohnee Oct 25 '12 at 14:45 add a comment| 19 Answers 19 ac

The text might vary, but the meat is the same: despite anonymous authentication is enabled and all the permissions are set (IUSR, IIS_IUSRS, NetworkService), the web application refuses to run properly. The fix Well. the first thing to do obviously is to ensure that what we mentioned above is properly set: anonymous authentication must access is denied be set to enabled (Authentication icon in IIS settings) and all the aforementioned users permissions must be properly assigned (filesystem wise). If everything has been handled correctly, you can proceed to add the following section to your web application‘s web.config file:
