An Unrecoverable Processor Error Has Been Encountered Ubuntu
September 17, 2008 I encountered the above error when installing Ubuntu 8.04.1 Desktop version on a Windows Vista Ultimate host PC using Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. To complete the install, I had to do the following… From the main CD menu, press F4-Modes Select Safe Graphics Mode Press F6-Other Options The boot options line will read ‘Boot Options eed boot=casper only-ubiquity initrd=/casper/initrd.gz quiet splash -‘. Change this to be ‘Boot Options eed boot=casper only-ubiquity initrd=/casper/initrd.gz vga=791 noreplace-paravirt -‘.
Note - the only change that is required is the nonreplace-paravirt option, but the vga=791 entry will allow faster loading due to not having to scan graphic modes. Another option is to use the Open Source VirtualBox which can be downloaded at VirtualBox.org. When using this virutalization program, which runs on Windows, Linux, Macintosh and OpenSolaris, I did not have to use any parameters or optional settings. From what I can figure http://prophetline.com/an-unrecoverable-processor-error-has-been-encountered-when-install-ubuntu-on-vpc-2007/ it's some incompatibility between Microsoft Virtual PC and non Microsoft operating systems. noreplace-paravirt After OpenSUSE is installed and when it first boots you'll have to use that parameter too and then add it as a permanent option to grub so you don't have to type it at every boot. Thanks to http://forums.opensuse.org/install-boot-login/391246-ms-vs-2k3-std-opensuse-11-a.html where I found this: YAST http://www.moorlandit.net/index.php/2008/09/an-unrecoverable-processor-error-has-been-encountered-installing-opensuse-11-on-ms-virtual-pc-2007-37/ -> System -> Boot Loader -> choose openSUSE 11.0 & Edit -> add noreplace-paravirt to Optional Kernel Command Line Parameter at the end seperated by a space from the others then OK and Finish. Btw, does anybody have a tutorial for using Ubuntu 8.04 in Microsoft Virtual PC? I know there's that infamous error: "An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now." So I followed a tutorial from a blog an unrecoverable processor to fix this (and my error is on the bold line): http://blogs.technet.com/seanearp/archive/2008/05/13/installing-ubuntu-8-04-hardy-heron-in-virtual-pc-2007.aspx Quote: Using guidance from a number of participants on this blog I’ve successfully managed to install Ubuntu 8.04 on two separate PC’s running VPC 2007 and I have it running at 1152 X 768 @ 55Hz with working sound. The notes below are nothing original, they are just summarized from previous entries and maybe clarified. To get the CD to load, Press F4 to select an alternate starting mode. When it pops up, change to Safe graphics mode and press Enter. Select F6 and add “noreplace-paravirt” to the end of the command line and press Enter. Now pick “Try Ubuntu…” (should already be selected) and press enter. Do NOT pick the Install Ubuntu option. //(my error)VPC freezes here, it won't load it Once Ubuntu is loaded from CD, select install from the desktop and it’ll build the system on the VPC disk. After you press restart, it just kind of hangs there. I shut the VPC session down and told it to
virtual machine will reset now." I have edited the options in installation screen with adding noreplace-paravirt at the end of boot parameters. but still have this error and FC installation does not continue.
