An Unrecoverable Processor Error Ubuntu 10.10
on Virtual PC 2007 with Windows 7 host. As you are aware, Virtual PC doesn’t support non Microsoft Operating Systems directly. Still it's possible to install latest Ubuntu on VPC with a small trick. If you are using MS Virtual PC as your main desktop virtualization software then this will be helpful without disturbing existing OS.Increasing screen size resolution and sound (sometimes network also) will not work in this method because Virtual machine additions are not available for Ubuntu. You may get following error,“An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now.” if Enable hardware-assistant virtualization selected.Follow the steps to disable VT on VPC and do a proper installation.1) Download latest Ubuntu 10.10 and MS Virtual PC from official sites.2) Create a new virtual machine; select ‘other’ type as operating systems.3) Adjust RAM size and allocate disk.4) If you start the VM and mount ISO now, it will give the following error when VT is enabled.See AlsoHow to mount ISO file to VPC5) If above error did not appear, then continue the installation, otherwise go to next step.6) In virtual machine settings, remove Enable hardware-assisted virtualization tick.7) Now start and select Install Ubuntu option.8.) Other steps are easy and straight forward. Leave the default option to create partition. Restart VM once it’s completed.9) Here is the working Ubuntu 10.10 on virtual pc 2007.The issues are;Screen size cannot be changed more than 800 x 600Sound is not working.I don’t mind to play around with latest Ubuntu version without above two options if I have to stay with Virtual PC, but VMware and VirtualBox supports additional features for this OS.Still if you are Microsoft fan but want to try latest Linux, then use this method.Share issues on this, and how you managed to increase screen resolution. Microsoft Virtual PC but pretty much as soon as Virtual PC boots from the CD image it gives the error ‘An unrecoverable processor error http://www.moorlandit.net/index.php/2008/09/an-unrecoverable-processor-error-has-been-encountered-installing-opensuse-11-on-ms-virtual-pc-2007-37/ has been encountered - the virtual machine will reset now' Googled the error and after various attempts I found that entering this boot option (just by typing it on the first installation menu screen you get) gets past the problem. From what I can figure it's some incompatibility between Microsoft Virtual PC and non Microsoft operating systems. noreplace-paravirt After OpenSUSE is installed and when an unrecoverable it first boots you'll have to use that parameter too and then add it as a permanent option to grub so you don't have to type it at every boot. Thanks to http://forums.opensuse.org/install-boot-login/391246-ms-vs-2k3-std-opensuse-11-a.html where I found this: YAST -> System -> Boot Loader -> choose openSUSE 11.0 & Edit -> add noreplace-paravirt to Optional Kernel Command Line Parameter at the end seperated by a space from the an unrecoverable processor others then OK and Finish.
