on VPC. That's working great. I am also trying to install UBUNTU 8.04 on VPC. I carefully followed the instructions but I keep receiving http://www.yqcomputer.com/1312_245_1.htm the following message: [ 26.508067] isapnp: checksum for device 1 is not https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/31655 valid (0x89). VPC then gives me: An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now. Then the RESET button appears. This continues endlessly. I thought that maybe the Ubuntu CD was bad, so I installed the operating system successfully on a test laptop an unrecoverable (no problems). So I am not sure if there is an issue with the disk partition or the CD. I think Ubuntu is allowed to be installed since I see other people having success with it. Any help on the error message about is greatly appreciated, thanks!!! There ARE instructions and documentation for how to properly use VPC. Unless I am delusional. There are a few options why this fails: 1) Check if you got the hardy iso for x86. As far as I know VPC does not support x64 guest systems. 2) Try booting with "noapic nolapic noacpi nosplash". If that works, please report back, so we can track down the bug 3) The easiest solution: Install VirtualBox (http://virtualbox.org) and try starting your iso with that virtual machine manager Please don't forget to check if your download was correct: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM#head-cc4057205f46f3da4e36ee1974c50c51bd89ed24 Robert Xu (bravoall1552) said on 2008-05-03: #2 Thanks Markus Thielmann, that solved my question.
