on Virtual PC 2007 with Windows 7 host. As you are aware, Virtual PC doesn鈥檛 support non Microsoft Operating Systems directly. Still it's possible to install latest Ubuntu on VPC with a small trick. If you are using MS Virtual PC as your main desktop virtualization software then this will be helpful without disturbing existing OS.Increasing screen size resolution and sound (sometimes network also) will not work in this method because Virtual machine additions are not available for Ubuntu. You may get following error,鈥淎n unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now.鈥 if聽 Enable hardware-assistant virtualization selected.Follow the steps to disable VT on VPC and do a聽 proper installation.1) Download latest Ubuntu 10.10 and MS Virtual PC from official sites.2) Create a new virtual machine; select 鈥榦ther鈥 type as operating systems.3) Adjust RAM size and allocate disk.4) If you start the VM and mount ISO now, it will give the following error when VT is enabled.See AlsoHow to mount ISO file to VPC5) If above error did not appear, then continue the installation, otherwise go to next step.6) In virtual machine settings, remove Enable hardware-assisted virtualization tick.7) Now start and select Install Ubuntu option.8.) Other steps are easy and straight forward. Leave the default option to create partition. Restart VM once it鈥檚 completed.9) Here is the working Ubuntu 10.10 on virtual pc 2007.The issues are;Screen size cannot be changed more than 800 x 600Sound is not working.I don鈥檛 mind to play around with latest Ubuntu version without above two options if I have to stay with Virtual PC, but VMware and VirtualBox supports additional features for this OS.Still if you are Microsoft fan but want to try latest Linux, then use this method.Share issues on this, and how you managed to increase screen resolution.
