I am unable to "OpenTextFile" for any IOMode other than Read. I have tried severaldifferentways and I am at wits end as to why I can only read the file. permissions are not blocking anyone from doing anything on the file. I have double andtriplechecked with examples in 2 different books. 'Create new text and file stream objects. Set objFile = objFSO.OpenTextFile("C:\RedGate\InsertDBVersion.sql",8,False,0) strFile = objFile.ReadAll() Have also tried as this 'Create new text and file stream objects. Set objFile = objFSO.GetFile("C:\RedGate\InsertDBVersion.sql) Set objStream = objFile.OpenAsTextStream(8,0) strSteam = objFile.ReadAll() No matter how I go about it, as long as I pass in any other IOmode other than ForReading (1) the error is thrown. After creating the changes that were needed in the file, I cleared my File Object and reset it with a test stream object returned from using CreateTextFile method and passing the overwrite as TRUE Set objFile = objFSO.CreateTextFile("C:\RedGate\InsertDBVersion.sql",True,False) objFile.Write(strFile) objFile.Close If you know what I was doing wrong before , please feel free to let me know. The files is created OK and you can open it. the folder is on C:\scripts and has no odd permissions. It did work this morning when i first started working on the script and then it stopped don't know why. I'm running it on a XP Pro virtual machine and in https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/22510858/VBS-OpenTextFile-Bad-file-mode-error.html XLnow onscript editor. Can't use command promt to test script because since I ran a script with a TimeOut variable set to 10 it shuts any subsiquent script I try to run on it, that is why I'm using XLnow onscript editor. this happened a week ago and it still won't let any script run for longer than 10 sceonds. Even tried using power shell which seems to of adopted same tactic even though it was in stalled after problem first arose. This section of script is part of larger script. If anyone could help me with any of these two problems would be great. My vbscript interpreter was working fine till the day I decided to install visual svn server for verifying purpose. Currently when I open a file in read mode everything bad file works fine. But when I open in write mode & try to read the data there is an error called Bad File Mode which pops up.Is it that when we open a file in write mode - we can't read the data - I am very skeptical about this . I have googled a bit and also browsed thread , but most of the results pointed me towards permission issue . I have verified with the systems group here & I have bad file mode all the permission including admin rights ..Code:Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")Set objTSO = objFSO.OpenTextFile(sFilePath,2,false)'This line when put in watch shows Permission errorsFileData=objTSO.ReadAll ' This line shows Bad file mode error.Am i missing something here . Any pointers appreciated.Regards,Kartik --------------------"I test softwares for living & I am proud of it !"
