124 V Motherboard 6 October 2010 04:27:27 A checksum is a redundancy check on the data stored, making sure that it is intact. This happens at start up; a scan of the system and testing it against previous boots. If the data is corrput or otherwise different than what the checksum orignally was, a checksum error will occur. Although a checksum error can occur during gigabyte ga g31m es2l warning main bios checksum error anytime, the most common occurance is during start up. During the startup processes of a computer, the BIOS settings, which are stored in a CMOS memory chip, are computed and then checked against the previous value. If the computed values do not match exactly, the computer warns the user with a checksum error message that the data may have been changed or corrupted between startup cycles. Since all BIOS are not the same, some may allow you to continue with the boot process, or some may require you to fix the problem before allowing you to continue. In my experience, the most common reason for this failure is due to the battery that holds the CMOS information; the data that is scanned and tested. Considering that you are able to continue using your computer without failure, I would suggest replacing that battery. A CMOS battery is a CR2032, and can be bought just about anywhere that sells batteries. Share scruff311 12 October 2010 15:01:44 Thanks! That fixed the problem perfectly. I also flashed to the latest Bios for good measure. m 0 l Can't find your answer ? Ask ! Get the answer scru

with a Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R motherboard which has been working fine. As far as gigabyte ga-g31m-es2l bios update download I know I have done nothing to alter the BIOS or any BIOS settings since the computer was supplied to cara mengatasi warning main bios checksum error me a couple of months ago. However, it has just started to produce the following message during the loading process: "Warning: Main BIOS Checksum Error!" followed by a string of dots. It then http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/281126-30-gigabyte-ex58-ud3r-checksum-error goes on to load normally.I don't know why it has started to happen but shouldn't it repair itself from the backup copy? Is there anything I can do to correct the problem?I'd be very grateful for any advice.Thanks. Check each http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=376.0 stick 1 at a time, in each slot and then clear the cmos.(2) Read your motherboard manual (3) replace the battery on the motherboard? This is the usual cause for "checksum" errors(4) Download the iso file for Memtest and burn it onto a CD/floppy. Boot from it and test the RAM. regards Logged Rob-H 3 0 Re: Main BIOS checksum error « Reply #2 on: July 16, 2009, 12:12:45 pm » Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll wait a bit before trying the ones that involve opening the case as it is still under warrenty and I've also asked the question of the supplier so I'd beter wait until they respond but I'll try the memtest one. Thanks again. Logged Rob-H 3 0 Re: Main BIOS checksum error « Reply #3 on: July 16, 2009, 04:29:45 pm » Well the problem is now resolved. I spoke to my supplier and they asked me to upgrade to the latest version of the BIOS which seems to have stopped the error message appearing. What I can't understand is why the message should have suddenly started! Logged + Print Pages: [1] Go Up « previous next »
the BIOS Fails? Have you ever been in the middle of a BIOS update and then had it fail for some reason? Or how about executing some applications only to find out that you've been infected by some new virus that completely renders your BIOS inoperable? If this has ever happened to http://www.gigabyte.com/microsite/55/tech_081226_dualbios.htm you, you know how difficult it can be to fix the problem. Without the BIOS working, the motherboard is basically not functional at all, since it is unable to boot. Often, the only way to get your system up and running again is to send your board in for an RMA so the BIOS chip can be physically replaced. TOP What is the BIOS? The BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) is a chip that has the software code to operate your computer when the bios checksum system is first turned on. One primary function of BIOS is to direct the computer to execute various tasks before the operating system kicks in. The BIOS also controls certain functions on your system such as power management features, overclocking settings allowing you to change CPU frequencies to tweak desired performance from our system and a host of other functions. TOP GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ 10 years ago, GIGABYTE engineers developed the unique GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ solution to automatically get your system up and running again without bios checksum error you having to do a thing. Patented Dual Hardware BIOS Protection TOP How does GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ Work? GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ feature two physical BIOS ROMS mounted onto the motherboard. One chip acts as your "Main" BIOS, or the BIOS your system primarily uses during boot up. The second chip acts as a "Backup" BIOS and has the factory default BIOS version on it. If your "Main" BIOS happens to fail or stops functioning, the "Backup" will automatically take over on your next system boot with little or no down time. Automatically invoked to recover Main BIOS, Only mission is to play the role of BIOS Recovery Agent Work as normal BIOS Boot Start BIOS check - Pass Hard ware check - Pass Boot sequence - On Boot UP ! BIOS FAIL Backup BIOS kick in Restore data to main BIOS Re-start BIOS Boot Up sequence This process is completely automatic. When you discover you have a problem, all you need to do is shut the system down and then boot up again. The GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ does the rest. When there is a BIOS firmware failure detected, the "Backup" BIOS will first recover the "Main" BIOS file back to its factory default BIOS version, and everything is back to normal again. If the BIOS failure is due to actual hardware damage, the Backup BIOS will take over and function as the Main BIOS. Automatically recovers Main BIOS data by Backup BIOS when Main BIOS has crashed
