Below are my PC spec: Mainboard: Gigabyte EP43-DS3 http://forumstest.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/48803-bios-auto-recovering-keep-restarting.html CPU: Intel C2Q Q6600 Memory: 4GB DDR2 HDD: Samsung 1.5TB Sata Graphic: Nvidia 8600GT 256mb Yesterday I was testing an automatic driver updating software and its provide bios update function as well. The software found I got some outdated driver which are Sound, LAN and Bios. I double checked on Gigabyte official website and found my existing drivers were truly outdated. Hence I choose to update those drivers using that softaware but I carelessly choose to update bios as well.(I know it is better to update Bios using QFlash because i used to). I found my PC unable to boot into OS after update the bios. (Bios has been updated to version F10b) I found some tutorial in this forum to auto recover the bios, I've tried booting with bootable usb drive with stable version of bios and boot with cd with bios in it but both give me no luck. I found some post here which teach to recover the bios by shorting pin 4 and pin7 on the bios chips. I managed to get into Qflash utility and turn off "Keep DMI data" and successfully update to another version of bios (ver. F9). After rebooting, it shows: Warning: Main bios checksum error! Retrieving recovery source from HPA... HPA bios unavailable!.. Retrieving recovery source from backup BIOS... Bios Auto Recovering........... During the auto recovering process, the system turn off automatically and reboot and keeping rebo

Main BIOS Checksum Error Every once in a while, when I try to boot up my rig the boot process takes longer due to what I believe is a bad BIOS. I don't have a picture of the screen or remember exactly what it says, but I remember a part of it says "Recovering BIOS from..." That's all I remember. Did I get a motherboard with a faulty BIOS chip? Could this be the reason for my F@H EUE problems? I did verify that my overclock is stable when I built this rig a month ago. Edit: It Happened again! Basically it's a black screen that says the following: Main BIOS Checksum Error............. Retrieving Recovery Source from HPA............... BIOS Auto-Recovering............. __________________ Last edited by geokilla; August 10, 2010 at 10:00 AM. #2 (permalink) August 6, 2010, 11:46 PM _dangtx_ Banned Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: mtl Posts: 12,691 if it doesnt do it with the overclock, you know what it is :) usually it happens,i think, when at boot it doesnt give just enough voltage so it goes into a form of safe recovery. that or its just playing with ya :p #3 (permalink) August 10, 2010, 10:00 AM geokilla Hall Of Fame Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Toronto Posts: 3,702 My System Specs Updated first post with details of the black screen __________________ #4 (permalink) August 10, 2010, 10:05 AM enaberif Hall Of Fame Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Calgahree, AB Posts: 10,815 I suggest you update your bios to see if it fixes the problem. Other option is to swap your battery and see if it goes away. #5 (permalink) August 10, 2010, 10:05 AM sswilson Moderator Join Date: Dec 2006 Location: Moncton NB Posts: 16,204 My System Specs Yeah, sounds like it might be a corrupt bios that's being recovered from a dual bios setup.
