is my site location. I checked to make sure the /includes directory and bootstrap.inc file was present, plus I found on line 305 where session_name() was being called. All present and accounted for. It looks like I'm unable to run the install script. Just to make sure I wasn't losing my mind, I created a small php script with phpinfo(); in it and phpinfo(); prints out the right version and system config with no problem. Anyone have call to undefined function yii\web\json_encode() a solution? (or troubleshooting tips?) Thanks! It looks like your php installation is missing an essential part (session support). I'll have to figure out how to remove that flag without affecting other virtual hosts on the Apache2 install. Any thoughts. I've been reading through docs on php.net, but it looks to be fairly deep in the documentation. It seems very likely that you got this error because the hash extension is not properly installed on this server. See #846706: Fatal error: Call to undefined function hash() in /srv/www/htdocs/includes/bootstrap.inc on line 639 for some further background on this and what might be causing it. (And #934948: Servers without the PHP hash extension get a white screen on install.php and update.php is a bug report about trying to give a friendlier error message in this case.) took me a while to solve it. The message means http://www.goldfisch.at/knowledge/383 that sessions are not working well in php. https://discussion.dreamhost.com/thread-136152.html There are a lot of session-related configentries in php.ini but setting them is not all. You need to have sessions enabled in php first. And information about how to do this is rare. Seems call to that either you have to compile it in php manually or - if you installed php via packages - you have to install the php-sessions-package (php4-sessions in my case : suse9.1) and enable it by adding the following line to your php.ini extension=session.so call to undefined peter at 2008-05-22 (updated 2008-05-22) serial : 383 If you found any nonsense in this entry or want to see important improvements, I would appreatiate to receive your comments at knowledge@goldfisch.at disclaimer : all these entries are part of my very private knowledgebase that I created while solving problems. I updated a MediaWiki installation to the latest stable version (1.19.2) and changed the domain's PHP to 5.3.x FastCGI. Now when I load any page, I get the following error: Fatal error: Call to undefined function session_name() in (my MW folder)/includes/Setup.php on line 456 When I switch it back to PHP 5.2.x, FastCGI, that error goes away. Line 456 simply says: session_name( $wgSessionName ? $wgSessionName : $wgCookiePrefix . You need to have sessions enabled in php for MediaWiki to work, and basically that means it's not. Did you make a php.ini file for your account? I believe you can edit your phprc (or php.ini) to turn on sessions PHP Info: http://wiki.dreamhost.com/PHP.ini#phprc Sessions: http://support.qualityunit.com/021373-Ho...rt-for-PHP 10-17-2012, 09:08 AM Post: #3 Andrew F Previous DH Staff Posts: 3,057 Joined: Aug 2008 RE: MediaWiki and session_name()? Sessions are on by default; only reason they'd be off is if there's something in your PHP 5.3 configuration that's preventing the extension from loading. Remove any PHP 5.3 configuration files you've added and try again. 10-19-2012, 09:06 PM (This post was last modified: 10-19-2012 09:13 PM by Reply.) That's what's really confusing to me -- I never tinkered with the sessions; they worked fine under 5.2, so why would they suddenly turn of with the Dreamhost panel change to 5.3? There is no php.ini (or .php folder in ~). On the command line, php -m shows "session" and phpinfo(); on a webpage shows "'--enable-session=shared'" under "Configure Command". However, the 5.2 version of phpinfo() has an entire SECTION dedicated to session, where as the 5.3 does not... is there any way to manually enable it somehow if it got mysteri
