I've got this error and it http://fix-your-printer.blogspot.com/2010/11/error-u052-on-canon-printers.html is THE SAME print head that came with the printer. Genuine CANON cartridges, always. Canon printers never have impressed me and the service is worse than none. July 17, 2011 at 3:12 PM Stizy said... I was happily printing things, then went to print something else and this error message came up. Talk about great timing..NOT. I am in the middle of sorting my accounts for my tax return :-(. Now it is going to take me time to sort this that I don't really have. January 30, 2012 at 12:27 AM Jaime said... Same problem here with original print head and Canon ink cartridges only. Found a forum where a few folks tried rehabbing their existing print head. They ran water through the print head until the water ran clear, then allowed it to dry thoroughly before re-installing. A few claim it worked. It didn't work for me,same old U052 message, but it also didn't cost me any extra money...What is so frustrating about this error is that it makes the unit completely inoperable. The scanner is still perfectly functional, bur I can't use it because the printer error message takes over the whole unit!Looks like the next step is to try a replacement. The class-action lawsuit involved certain PIXMA inkjet print-head issues experienced by end-users, including the “U052” error code, which may have caused such printers to display the following error code message: “The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head.” Under the settlement, Canon U.S.A., while denying any liability, has agreed to extend the warranty for these printers for nine months from the date of the expiration of the original one-year warranty. Under the settlement, if a customer encountered a print-head error code during the original or extended warranty period, they may be eligible, upon the submission of the requisite documentation, for a cash payment of up to $50.00 or a coupon valued at up to $75.00 redeemable at Canon's online store. Owners of the following Canon PIXMA printers are included under the settlement: iP3600, iP4700, iP4820, iP4920, iX6520, iX7000, MG5120, MG5220, MG5320, MG6120, MG6220, MG8120, MG8220, MP500, MP53
