Slot one keeps giving error code 161-1, saying to call the cable company. Cable company doesn't know what error code 161-1 is. Slot two will configure normally. Swapped several cards and still no good. Do you think slot one is just defective? thanks! I use Cablevision in Long Island as my provider and use two Cablecards in the box. I keep getting a 161-1 and 160-2 error message. Per TIVO these are Cablecard error messages. The TIVO does not recongnize the card error 161-1 card in Slot 2, slot one works fine but with only one card I can record two programs at once - one of the main reasons I bought this specific unit. Cablevision has changed the cablecard six times and the problem still happens. I thought it was the TIVO itself and returned the first one back to AMAZON; the one I have now is 4 days old and the problem still happens. These are NDS cards, not Motorola or Scientific America which are better cards. If I had one multi-stream card I was told this problem would not occur. But Cablevision, although a Long Island based company, does not offer multi-stream cards to Long Island customers at this time So - has anyone ever experienced these problems? If so, were yu able to fix the problem? If so, how? I am 99% sure I have to return this box as well and either go back to Cabevision's DVR or get another DVR (suggetions?). Any help would be appreciated. pdonoghupdonoghu 1 follower Jan 13, 2008 at 12:31:04 PM | #2 More Options Hide Options Forward Report Abuse Print [Archived] I'm also a Cablevision customer, in NJ. I don't think there is anything wrong with the box. I have seen a number of posts with problems on Cablevision with the NDS cards. I suspect there may be a combination of factors causing the problem. The NDS cards have firmware going back to
161-6" and suggests that I should contact my cable providerabout it. When I press "OK" to move forward, I find that several of my HDchannels are no longer showing. Through experience, I have found that doingone of two things will restore the missing channels: cutting off the TV &pulling and re-seating the CableCard and then re-starting the TV, orresetting the CableCard via the TV menu.So far, Time-Warner has been unable to stop this from happening. They tellme they don't know what "Error 161-6" is. Well, there, obviously, is partof the problem. If I knew what that error was, I might be able to pointthese incompetents in the right direction.I asked Sony via email. They gave me this answer: "We apologize for anyinconvenience. Unfortunately, we do not have a listing for the error code. These codes are for the use of servicer only. We suggest that you pleaseconsult a qualfied Sony service personnel for assistance." Hmmm. That does not tell me if the CableCard error codes are formulated by Sony,Scientific Atlanta that makes the card, Time-Warner that supplies thesignal, or the International CableCard Association, if there is such athing. Googling has not produced any information for me.I am going to contact Sears service, that provides my extended warranty, tosee if they have a list of these error codes. And I'll keep on harrasingTime-Warner. In the meantime, anyone have another idea?mackaustin neal seidl 2004-12-01 02:20:43 UTC PermalinkRaw Message I'm afraid I don't have a Rosetta stone for the error codes, but I cantell you that I've had continual problems with Time Warner Cable /CableCard including similar error codes (in my case "161-53"). I guessat least I'm not the only one having this problem!I have a Mitsubishi WD-52525 and am in Milwaukee, WI. Time Warner herehas seemed equally clueless. On their first attempt to install theCableCard, the tech was here for 2 hours before he gave up. Laterdetermined that the set needed a firmware upgrade. Apparently Mitsshipped these sets with old buggy firmware and then knowingly allowedtheir resellers to move them without any proactive notification to thecustomer leaving each of us to go though this headache and figure it outfor ourselves and then have to come to them and ask for the upgrade. After this TW came back and was able to get the CableCard to initializein the set, but t
