“ERROR CODE 48” “CARD ERROR” “CARD NOT VALID” “CARD EXPIRED” Since 25 March digi card rules 2012 a number of transport operators have experienced a problem with their digital driver cards giving the following

error message. “ERROR CODE 48” “CARD ERROR” “CARD NOT VALID” “CARD EXPIRED” This is due to a fault on the driver card and DVLA have issued the following advice to drivers: dvla If your card is faulty you will need to return it with a completed application form D777B to DVLA who will issue a new card. You will need to apply within seven calendar days for a replacement. Application forms are downloadable from the Business Link website, or available from DVLA, DVLA Local Offices and VOSA Testing Stations. Where possible try the card in a different vehicle unit (VU) to verify that the card is faulty. If you do not return the faulty card, the DVLA will have to treat the card as lost or stolen and charge the relevant fee. Please be aware you can drive without the lost, stolen or damaged card for a maximum of 15 calendar days. You can drive for longer in order for the vehicle to return to its premises provided you produce two printouts - one for the beginning of the journey and one for the end. Please mark on the envelope code 48 (these will receive priority). Replacement cards should arrive within 5-7 days until then drivers are advised to take manual printouts from the Tachograph Head and ensure they have a sufficient supply of print rolls; see our online shop. The tacho screen shows up CARD INVALID 48. If you press ok, it shows that there is a card in the machine but will flash up DRIVING WITHOUT CARD as soon as you move. After 2 hours or so of driving it will spit the http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1131617 card back out at you and will show SECURITY BREACH 47.I have phoned the DVLA, told them the card number, been given a reference number and told to send the card off with the usual tacho renewal/application form but I will get a replacement card free of charge (rather than pay the £19 that they normally charge for a damaged card). Cards issued outside of these dates are not affected.A DVLA statement says: "We are urgently investigating the problem and will be contacting those drivers affected.
