Before 1996 however, cars reported their errors from the computer themselves via a flashing code from the check engine light. The dreaded check engine light comes on while you are driving only to signify that there is a problem. The specific error or failing part could be one of many different things that the computer senses for. You can bridge a set of wires in your car and send the cars computer into its error reporting mode so that you can find out whats wrong with your car. Again, this instructable is only useful for people who have cars that report engine trouble via a flashing check engine light. This should be true for many cars made before 1996.Here is a short video explaining the code deciphering process. Fault codes trick Started by johnyy , Oct 20 2013 12:24 PM Please log in to http://typeaccord.co.uk/forum/topic/15136-fault-codes-trick/ reply 14 replies to this topic #1 johnyy johnyy Newbie Members 11 posts Name:Johny Smith Car :Accord 2004 LocationUK Posted 20 October 2013 - 12:24 PM Hi guys. Had a little problem yesterday after I knocked front left wheel against a curb. After a few miles the amber ABS light came on for a short while. Later in the journey it came on and stayed on. I suspect therefore a fault check engine with the front n/s abs sensor From reading various forums it seems I need to find the fault code from the ECU to confirm this? I have read that if you short a connection somewhere under the dashboard, the fault code will blink in the dashboard. I have the fault codes list, and I found a .pdf workshop manual. Only thing I can't find easily is the location of the honda civic check connector I need to short out. Don't want to shove a paperclip in the wrong connector and cause more problems. Also don't want to be ripped off by a Honda dealer. Can anyone help please? Apologies if this is listed elsewhere but I spent a bit of time searching and can't find anything Edited by johnyy, 20 October 2013 - 12:25 PM.
