Hold down the Ctrl key while opening Excel. At the prompt click Yes. This loads Excel without any macros (likely the source of your problem) or the default document template (which may be corrupt). See if it opens and closes cleanly. Repeat. See if it opens cleanly in normal mode and closes cleanly. The safe mode opening/closing should have replaced a corrupt normal.xlsx (default template file). If not, search for and delete normal.xlsx and normal.xls. Try running Excel in safe mode. In the last few days my desktop machine has been giving me odd warnings. They seem to have to do with Visual Basic, I think (I don't use it much) from the warnings themselves. The errors are: In Excel, on opening== ! Microsoft Visual Basic: Compile error in hidden module: AutoExecNew In Excel, on closing== ! Microsoft Visual Basic: Compile error in hidden module: DistMon In Word== ! Microsoft Visual Basic: Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec In Word, on closing== ! Microsoft Visual Basic: Compile error in hidden module: AutoExec I don't use Outlook; Outlook Express appears unaffected. Norton AntiVirus doesn't detect anything. I've reinstalled MicroSoft Office; the problem persists. Any ideas? Thanks. #1 cipher00, Jan 26, 2002 DaveSimmons Elite Member Joined: Aug 12, 2001 Messages: 38,760 Likes Received: 33 macro virus? #2 DaveSimmons, Jan 26, 2002 cipher00 Golden Member Joined: Jan 29, 2001 Messages: 1,294 Likes Received: 0 Possible, but I can't nail it, which seems odd to me. That's why I tried a reinstall of Office, short of a bare metal redo. It's not happening on other machines on my Lan, so that's not it. And, it's not Universal Translator (MS warns about that one in its knowledgebase..). If it were a macro virus I thought that a reinstall would handle it..... But maybe that's just wishful thinking. #3 cipher00, Jan 27, 2002 cipher00 Golden Member Joined: Jan 29, 2001 Messages: 1,294 Likes Received: 0 A ^bump^ for the weekday crowd, with hope that a bare metal install is not around the corner. #4 cipher00, Jan 28, 2002 cipher00 Golden Member Joined: Jan 29, 2001 Messages: 1,294 Likes Received: 0 Perhaps I should provide more info when asking, but I found the answer here It appears Acrobat and Excel and Norton Antivirus don't play together well. Thanks to all for reviewing. #5 cipher00, Jan 28, 2002 (You must log in or sign up to post here.) Show Ignored Content Loading... Similar Threads - Office Visu
