They state that this can occur for an install without admin privileges, but I have seen this error occur when an admin was compile error in logged on a workstation and ran the install. But the fix was used as suggested and corrected the issue from occurring. Error: "Compile error in hidden module: mdlGlobal" From the new readme for 11.0.1.15: Error when Opening Excel: If you installed the HP ALM Microsoft Excel Add-in without administrator privileges, you may receive the "Compile Error in hidden module: mdlGlobal" error when you open Excel. The Windows Common Controls mscomctl.ocx file has become un-registered. To resolve this issue, either: Repair or reinstall Microsoft Office. By default the mscomctl.ocx file is registered when Microsoft Office is installed. Manually register the mscomctl.ocx file: For 64bit OS, run the following command in the cmd window with administrator privileges: Regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\mscomctl.ocx For 32bit OS, run the following command in the cmd window with administrator privileges: Regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx** Comment JDub MrBeavis Michael 1 ColtsFan12 People who like this Close Like · 4 · Add comment · Show 1 · Share 10 |600 characters needed characters left characters exceeded ▼ Viewable by all users Viewable by moderators Viewable by moderators and the original poster Viewable by all users JDub · Apr 11, 2013 at 03:13 PM 0 Share That fix did the trick. We check that Macros is enabled but still doesn't help. Since we protect this excel spread sheet with a password, we don't want to be giving this password out to our users to check the References, and wondered if anyone had any idea how I can add VBA code to check whether the References required for the excel spread sheet is there and if not then bring up a message box to advise the user. The References we use are as follows: Visual Basic For Applications Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library Microsoft Windows Common Controls 5.0 (SP2) Alternatively, if anyone has any other suggestions on how to go about this problem, that would be great. excel vba reference compilation share|improve this question edited Aug 8 '13 at 1:36 asked Aug 8 '13 at 1:01 SamoanProgrammer 3542415 I don't know if there's vba for checking references, but I know that the excel object library is often different depending on the version of office installed. My suggestion would be to use late binding if the commands are the same...but there's probably a better way. –RowanC Aug 8 '13 at 1:27 Hi mate, I'm still quite new to VBA programming, so what do you mean by using late binding? –SamoanProgrammer Aug 8 '13 at 1:40 support.microsoft.com/kb/245115 –RowanC Aug 8 '13 at 1:55 thank you @SamoanProgrammer would you know how your users can add references if there is a password on the VBA code? (I have the exact same problem). chrs, BK –BKSpurgeon May 30 at 21:50 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted The only reference you have listed that could possibly be missing is the common controls. The rest are default in every version of Excel. The Forms one is only if you have a userform or explicitly set it, but that's not your problem. Common Controls is your problem. It
