it only takes a minute: Sign up Excel VBA Compile Error up vote 0 down vote favorite 1 We have an excel spread sheet which we use and it works for most machines but bombs out with 'Compile Error in https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/gg251410.aspx Hidden Module - General' on others, and the reason appears to be due to missing References. We check that Macros is enabled but still doesn't help. Since we protect this excel spread sheet with a password, we don't want to be giving this password out to our users to check the References, and wondered if anyone had any idea how I can add VBA code to check whether the References required for the excel spread sheet is there and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/18116285/excel-vba-compile-error if not then bring up a message box to advise the user. The References we use are as follows: Visual Basic For Applications Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library Microsoft Forms 2.0 Object Library Microsoft Windows Common Controls 5.0 (SP2) Alternatively, if anyone has any other suggestions on how to go about this problem, that would be great. excel vba reference compilation share|improve this question edited Aug 8 '13 at 1:36 asked Aug 8 '13 at 1:01 SamoanProgrammer 3542415 I don't know if there's vba for checking references, but I know that the excel object library is often different depending on the version of office installed. My suggestion would be to use late binding if the commands are the same...but there's probably a better way. –RowanC Aug 8 '13 at 1:27 Hi mate, I'm still quite new to VBA programming, so what do you mean by using late binding? –SamoanProgrammer Aug 8 '13 at 1:40 support.microsoft.com/kb/245115 –RowanC Aug 8 '13 at 1:55 thank you @SamoanProgrammer would you know how your users can add references if there is a password on the VBA code? (I have the exact same problem). chrs, BK –BKSpurgeon May 30 at 21:50 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted The only reference you have listed that could possibly be missing is the common controls. Find/Replace add-in for Excel has stopped working, displaying the following error message: The error appears to be http://www.codedawn.com/index/-compile-error-in-hidden-module-message-in-excel a side effect of a recent update released by Microsoft. I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taeQkJ5THvQ don't know the details of exactly why this broke the add-in, and I'm not sure if it's caused by a Windows update or a Microsoft Office update. However, after scouring the Internet for a while, I came across a solution. Here are compile error the steps to restore the add-in's functionality: Close Excel Open a command prompt with admin privileges Run the following two commands: For 32-bit Windows: regsvr32 -u c:\windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mscomctl.ocx For 64-bit Windows: regsvr32 -u c:\windows\syswow64\mscomctl.ocx regsvr32 c:\windows\syswow64\mscomctl.ocx Open ExcelUsually that solves the problem, although the same "Compile error in hidden module" error compile error in can sometimes be caused by corrupted Excel files. So if the above steps don't do the trick, there is one other possible solution you can try: Close Excel Open Windows Explorer In the Windows Explorer address bar, type %appdata%and press Enter In the resulting list of subfolders, find and open the Microsoft folder In the Microsoft folder, find and open the Forms subfolder In the Forms folder, rename or delete the following two files (if they are present): comctllib.exd mscomctllib.exd Open Excel (it will automatically recreate the aforementioned files as it needs them)Hope that helps! Published on Jul 31, 2013Using Windows XP service pack 2 and getting this bug when trying to generate XML using ITR workbook I must admit that this was a strange bug for i personally didn't face it since i have a service pack 3 for windows XP but few people using service pack 3 also complain of this bug .One of my subscriber's while trying to fill the return (excel workbook ITR 1 )was getting this message .After analysing the message he got via his send email screenshot and going through his comments , i understood that it was not easy for me to replicate the problem because it seemed to be a operating system issue and in my parent laptop ,it didn't seem a good idea to virtualise (create a seperate system for this version of windows XP),so i virtualised my other laptop and yes the bug did came in service pack 2 , .Basically the VB coding done vide modules used to generate the Extended mark up document don't compile properly with versions of windows XP OS lesser than service pack 3 version...so people using windows XP service pack 2 might face this problem ,because when i installed windows XP service pack 2 in one of my 5 laptops , i got the same error ,Firstly pressing alt +F11 opens up the visual basic editor which shows the module which the developer has coded for the excel workbook to work and generate the XML ,Since clicking the XML throws up this error , it can be presumed that the OS with which it does has some compatibility issue ,next would be be to download a patch which enhances XML generation across such bugging operating systems ,So ,being a developer i understood , that the solution then lies in enhancing the XML capacity of the OS and so my search on google for XML enhancing patches for Opreating system XP with service pack 2 started ,Of the various patches i downloaded , the one shown in the video worked for my case .Across any version of
