There Was An Error Compiling This Function The Visual Basic Module
following error: "Compile error.in query expression" I've seen this function work in other Access databases. How come it does not work in mine? Answer: This error can be caused by multiple scenarios. Let's look at two of the most common causes. Option #1 This error can occur when there is a broken Reference in your Access database and you've tried to use one of the built-in microsoft access compile error can't find project or library Access functions such as Left, Instr, Len, Year, Mid, etc. To correct the problem, you need to open your Access database. Press Alt+F11 to open the Microsoft Visual Basic window. When the Microsoft Visual Basic window appears, select References under the Tools menu. When the References window appears, check to see if there are any References checked that start with "MISSING:". If there are any, uncheck these References. Then click on the OK button. In this example, we want to uncheck the reference called "MISSING: Microsoft Word 9.0 Object Library". If you, in fact, need this Reference, go back to the References window (Tools > References) and re-check the reference. Click on the OK button. Now your Access database should have fixed the broken references and the error message should disappear. In the event that there were no References that start with "MISSING:", uncheck one or more of the existing References. Make sure that you record the References that you are unchecking. Then click on the OK button. Then go back to the References window (Tools > References) and re-check the references that you just unchecked. Access will update its references and the error message should

And: Compile error. in query expression '(DatePart("ww", [VisitorInfo].[TutorInt]))=(DatePart("ww", Now())+1)'. There were no changes made to any http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=67592 of the queries, or any code. The only change was the installation of new db software, which I have heard it suggested can sometimes cause reference problems. There are no missing references listed, however, and simply unchecking and rechecking available references did not seem to help, so my minimal knowledge of how to deal with possible reference problems is exhausted. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. __________________ Specialization is for insects. -Robert Heinlein songofsolon View Public Profile Find More Posts by songofsolon 07-16-2004, 02:50 PM #2 songofsolon Registered User Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: High Desert Posts: 11 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts Per the advice of someone with more common sense than me, I tried compiling the db again, and it fixed the problem. Hello Forum, I work for a very large corporation. Today morning when I logged into my computer it asked for a reboot because of recent auto-update. This is a normal routine every month for corporate-wide Microsoft patches. Long story in query expression short - for the first time, after rebooting, all my MS Access 2000 queries that have any function in it, stopped working. I tried to create simple queries with function (e.g. select trim(FieldName) from TableA) to test, but with no luck. The error I get is: Compile Error. in query expression 'trim(FieldName)'. Somebody told that I was missing few links to some library references. I didn't know which ones so I reinstalled MS Access 2000 thinking it should resolve the problem. But again with no luck. Can someone help please... module in Visual Basic, which does all sorts of fancy stuff. I made sure that it can handle any error, and keep right on going. I am worried that if Microsoft sees this module, they will try to buy me, and copyright my brain. Ok, it isn't quite that good, but you get my point. Now when I open any of my queries, I receive the error:"Compile error . in query expression ‘val(nz([proj_name],0))'" It seems that the error is with any of the built in functions. If I remove the val statement, I receive it for the nz statement. Of course, being a modern information worker, I used half of Google's bandwidth to search for an answer, and I found some really great ones, just none that helped me. Generally, this type of error deals with a missing reference in the visual basic editor. Allen Browne has a terrific page about Solving Problems with Library References (thanks for that page Allen). He also points to another incredible resource, Doug Steele's Access Reference ProblemsIn my case, none of these steps worked for me. I did manage to narrow my problem down to one single statement. It seems that when I use the call statement to run a sub procedure, I get that error. The really neat thing is that I don't even have to touch the module, all I have to do is have that call statement in there, and magically, none of my queries work.I even tried converting the sub into a function, and I still get the errors if I have any code in my module that invokes the function.I have made a post to the very helpful people that read the Microsoft Newsgroup Server. Unfortunately, I posted to Microsoft.public.access.modulescoding, and it doesn't look like Google carries it.Update: My post on the newsgroup was answered by Allen Browne. What a helpful guy. He had me choose compile in my vb module, and fix all of the errors, after that, it worked like a charm.
