mid() functions. I then copied the database over to my pc at home, but now these functions does not want to work on this database. My pc at home also has Access 2010. Everytime i try to run a query i get the following message, There was an error compiling this function. Visual basic contains a syntax error. Check the code and then compile it again. I created a new DB on my pc at home access 2010 the visual basic module contains a syntax error to test the functions and had no problems. I also noticed that on my pc at home the heading reads Database1 : Database(Access 2007) - Microsoft Access while at work it says Database1 : Database(Access 2007 - 2010) - Microsoft Access. Both PCs have Windows 7 Professional and my home PC is about 1 year old and my pc at work about 3 months. I also updated/repaired my Access at home, but the DB still does not want to work. How can i fix this problem? I have a simple table call it Table1 with an id column and a column named Name, id Name 1 Jason 2 Casey 3 Shasha Now if i want to use the left() function in an Access query , i get the error message: There was an error compiling this function. I have been using this for years now. I regularly use Left, Mid, and Right functions, along with the CDbl function. All of a sudden, I am getting an http://www.pcreview.co.uk/threads/sudden-problem-with-functions-in-queries.3962931/ error when trying to build expressions in a query. it comes back with an https://www.tutcity.com/access/how-to-fix-a-compile-error-in-query-expression-error.7915.html error, "There was an error compiling this function". I have compacted the database, rebooted, and tried everything I know. Any ideas? duck, Feb 3, 2010 #1 Advertisements Sylvain Lafontaine Guest Decompile your database: create a shortcut with the following startup options: /decompile /compact /repair Another way of decompiling is to go into the References compile error dialog window of the VBA environment, add a dummy reference, close the References dialog windows (important!) and after that, reopen it and remove the dummy reference previously added. Changed the list of references will force Access to recompile all modules the next time they are used. A final possibility is that you have now a missing reference into this list of references. -- Sylvain Lafontaine, ing. To do its job, Access makes use of various external program and object libraries. If you move a database from one machine to another, these references may be "broken" or if you install new versions of software (applications or operating system) the references can change. When this happens, you need to take steps to let Access repair the reference(s) ON THE COMPUTER WHERE THE FAILURE IS OCCURRING. Here are MVP Doug Steele's instructions for how to do it: *** Quote *** Any time functions that previously wo

Compile error: User-defined type not defined I just wanted to submit this solution out here so in case someone runs into the same error they will know how to fix it. I have a module that sends emails out of Outlook based on information that is pulled into Access via an Excel worksheet. When I went from Access 2003 to Access 2010 I was getting the error: "Compile error: User-defined type not defined" when trying to run that particular module.
