up vote 105 down vote favorite 23 I've checked a number of similar questions on stackoverflow but haven't found an answer yet. I'm trying to install memcached on Lion OSX as shown here. Here's what I'm getting: j-court-demones-macbook-pro:libevent-1.4.12-stable jcourtdemone$ ./configure; make checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... ./install-sh -c -d checking for gawk...

I have done the below steps but gettting the error "checking whether the C compiler works... no" "configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables" even though there are gcc, gcc++ packages already installedin Linux. steps are - 1. downloaded and extracted http-2.4.9.tar.gz and made /u03/backup/Apps_stage/apache/http-2.4.9.tar.gz/ folder 2. downloaded apr-1.5.0.tar.gz, apr-util-1.5.3.tar.gz and extracted them into /u03/backup/Apps_stage/apache/http-2.4.9.tar.gz/srclib/ 3. Inside srclib/ folder renamed the apr-*** and apr-util*** folders to apr/ and apr-util/ respectively 4.
