If you need the old g77 for whatever reason please run this (as root) yum install compat-gcc* g77 compiler has stopped development so it is replaced by gfortran in gcc > 4.2. share|improve this answer edited Jul 18 '13 at 10:39 answered Jul 18 '13 at 10:34 furins 3,29111942 did $yum install gcc-c++ and got rid of sanity check error successfully now $./configure --prefix=~/progsandlibs/ --enable-R-shlib configure: error: expected an absolute directory name for --prefix: ~/progsandlibs so tried $./configure checking for history_truncate_file... no configure: error: --with-readline=yes (default) and headers/libs are not available so tried $./configure --enable-R-shlib checking for history_truncate_file... no configure: error: --with-readline=yes (default) and headers/libs are not available Please let me know where i am wrong –timma Jul 18 '13 at 12:10 just a question: did you

When I try to configure 'R-3.0.2' on my laptop, it exits giving an error of " configure: error: No F77 compiler found". I looked for fortran installations on my machine. I found none. I tried to install fortran, using apt-get, but it could not find the packages. I downloaded the gfortran package from the website and tried to install it, but it says some dependency related to gcc is missing. What should I be doing now. I badly need R installed on my machine. Please help me. Thanks.
