Change the Compatibility mode to "Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP" , click ‘apply’ then ‘ok’. Do the same for Ad-AwareAdmin.exe and then retry the web-update. *Go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services and locate "Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service". Stop the Service (if started) and then right click/properties. Under Logon, check "Allow service to interact with desktop", click OK and restart the service and then retry the web-update. Anybody encounter the same problem lately (was fine for a while)? Tried the service's http://www.lavasoft.com/mylavasoft/support/faqs/web-update-connection-error "stop" & "re-start" route. Any other solutions besides uninstall this V8.1.4 and/or install the whole core defination under V8.2.x? However, I HIGHLY recommend that everyone updates to the 9.0 version. With the speed at which the malware industry changes, you need to keep your technology up to date to ensure your protection. If you are using an old version you are not as protected as you should be, so once again, I highly recommend you get the latest version. Both computers run idential XP operating systems and McAfee Internet Security.Both computers are connected through the same network with a Linksys router. All connection error other access to the internet works perfectly.The laptop, which I use 20% of the time is fully able to connect to LavaSoft and get updates.The desktop, which I use 80% of the time receives an immediate "connection error, check your settings." It does not even get a chance to access the internet.Any ideas on why I cannot connect? Any chance spyware is involved?Thanks for your help! Many users with this issue I have 4 machines all running Vista with Adaware AE upgraded from 2008... One of them will not update (the one I upgraded today...) other 3 work fine. I can ping the update server just fine and updates run well with Admin rights UAC promt yes, when run via start menu... No baddies present. Running adaware AE with latest patches and def files along with AVAST AV fully up to date.Many other posts to this effect in this forum and others on the net. Admins, what is the

But does not work, there comes the following error message: Couldn `t install updater. The problem I have since yesterday. And because I'm just not on. If you have paid for the product, you can contact the Lavasoft support team. Which antivirus program (or recently uninstalled) and firewall do you have? Are you sure that the Ad-Aware installation program is allowed by the firewall to fetch files from internet? Is the computer connected to internet through a proxy server? Proxy server settings: Start Internet Explorer. In the Tools menu select Internet options, followed by Connection tab and then click the LAN Settings button. If the check box Use a proxy server for your LAN (These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections) is selected, a proxy server is used. If you haven't configured it yourself, it can be due to an infection or an antivirus
