(06:43:12) msn: Connection error from Notification server (messenger.hotmail.com): Unable to connect comment:3 Changed 7 years ago by Meetshield We have two different computers both running 2.5.8 here that are unable to connect to MSN. Yahoo and Gmail are working fine. MSN messenger on the same machine connects to the service fine, but Pidgin says "connection error from notification server: Unable to connect" Some update from the developers on this would be useful. comment:4 Changed 7 years ago by khc this means that you cannot connect to that domain, are you behind some firewall that requires you to use a proxy? comment:5 Changed 7 years ago by alainkaa Same problem here, I haven't made any changes to the preferences recently. And there is no proxy in my environment. Enabling the 'Use HTTP Method' check box allows me to login again. But I'm still unable to send messages: "Message could not be sent because a connection error occurred:" Please note: I'm running Pidgin 2.0.2, the version shipped with Solaris 10. comment:6 Changed 7 years ago by alainkaa I've made some further debugging and I think that this issue is not Pidgin related. The default MSN Server 'messenger.hotmail.com' is an alias which points to 'messenger.hotmail.geo.msnmessenger.msn.com.akadns.net'. It looks like

Submitted by GnomenKlayture on June 25, 2012 - 10:50am I've done everything I can think of... All the usual, updates to the meta pidgin, verified I can access the MSN account, but at CMD an NSLOOKUP on messenger.hotmail.com returns nothing... Seems that MS has integrated messenger with their Live Essentials thus making messenger.hotmail.com:11004 no https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/9905 longer connect capable. I've searched the forums for a reference and it seems I'm the first, so if anyone else has issue and a fix, please post it or the link or what should be in Account>Advanced>Server, Port and/or "HTTP Method Server" maybe? Because even using it, I get "Connection error from Notification Server. Error resolving gateway messenger.hotmail.com:11004" Log in or register to post comments http://portableapps.com/node/32879 SevenFactors June 25, 2012 - 9:05pm Permalink hmmmm MSN on Pidgin is working fine for me. I'm not a heavy user user of the MSN messaging protocol, but from time to time I have to communicate with clients over it. ---My current Pidgin/MSN connection settings are as follow--- This are the default settings. Perhaps you are still using an outdated version of pidgin or for some reason you changed the port. Give these settings a try. -Sever: messenger.hotmail.com -Port: 1863 -HTTP Method Server: gateway.messenger.hotmail.com --I don't use the HTTP method [not checked] ---Connection as shown on CMD/NETSTAT--- baymsg1030121.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com:1863 ESTABLISHED Log in or register to post comments GnomenKlayture June 26, 2012 - 9:42am Permalink Thank You! Changing Server: to your cmd/netstat fixed it! SevenFactors, it was the gateway that was failing. After only changing the Server: messenger.hotmail.com …to… Server: baymsg1030121.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com …did it connect successfully!!! Thank you very much for your feedback! BTW, this new gateway change has helped several of my co-workers too! Also, are you behind a firewall that requires you to use a proxy to connect to MSN? DMzda (maz-ibrahim) said on 2008-08-02: #2 The server is: messenger.hotmail.com The port is: 1863 I am not sure about the third question, but I use ntlmaps to connect to an ISA proxy for other internet applications. Thanks. Guillaume Tremblay Beaumont (guizzy) said on 2008-08-02: #3 Well, you have the right server settings, so it's not that. Assuming it you've got the right login info, it is very likely to be related to your proxy. I am not too knowledgeable about ntlmaps, so I'm not too sure what I'm about to say is going to be much of a help. Let's check first if the port is really blocked. Try this: open up a terminal and run the following command: telnet messenger.hotmail.com 1863 What do you get when you try this? My theory is that KDE has its own proxy settings for its applications, so while Kopete might have worked without you needing to configure your proxy, it's not necessarily the case for Pidgin. If you k
