years ago Closed 5 years ago #14633 closed defect (invalid) MSN - read error on connection for one account, other is fine Reported by: draeath Owned by: QuLogic Milestone: Component: MSN Version: 2.10.0 Keywords: Cc: paul_b12@… Description One MSN account on this system (@hotmail.com) is able to log https://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/14633 in to MSN just fine. Another account, (@ our domain) is not, I am receiving "Connection error from Notification server (messenger.hotmail.com): Reading error" I have logged into MSN Live's website with this account and http://portableapps.com/node/32879 there doesn't seem to be anything amiss. I am attaching debug window output for a connection for each of the above. Some other clients (including the official one!!) are failing to log into these accounts as well. The official client (un)helpfully provides error code 8100037B, stating that they have changed something that may affect our ability to log in. comment:3 Changed 5 years ago by draeath Resolution set to invalid Status changed from new to closed The following communication was received from Microsoft. It appears that this is all because of some corporate domain reservation stuff on Microsoft's side. Not a protocol or client issue. Submitted by GnomenKlayture on June 25, 2012 - 10:50am I've done everything I can think of... All the usual, updates to the meta pidgin, verified I can access the MSN account, but at CMD an NSLOOKUP on messenger.hotmail.com returns nothing... Seems that MS has integrated messenger with their Live Essentials thus making messenger.hotmail.com:11004 no longer connect capable. I've searched the forums for a reference and it seems I'm the first, so if anyone else has issue and a fix, please post it or the link or what should be in Account>Advanced>Server, Port and/or "HTTP Method Server" maybe? Because even using it, I get "Connection error from Notification Server. Error resolving gateway messenger.hotmail.com:11004" Log in or register to post comments SevenFactors June 25, 2012 - 9:05pm Permalink hmmmm MSN on Pidgin is working fine for me. I'm not a heavy user user of the MSN messaging protocol, but from time to time I have to communicate with clients over it. ---My current Pidgin/MSN connection settings are as follow--- This are the default settings. Perhaps you are still using an outdated version of pidgin or for some reason you changed the port. Give these settings a try. -Sever: messenger.hotmail.com -Port: 1863 -HTTP Method Server: gateway.messenger.hotmail.com --I don't use the HTTP method [not checked] ---Connection as shown on CMD/NETSTAT--- baymsg1030121.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com:1863 ESTABLISHED Log in or register to post comments GnomenKlayture June 26, 2012 - 9:42am Permalink Thank You! Changing Server: to your cmd/netstat fixed it! SevenFactors, it was the gateway that was failing. After only changing the Server: messenger.hotmail.com …to… Server: baymsg1030121.gateway.edge.messenger.live.com …did it connect successfully!!! Thank you very much for your feedback! BTW, this new gateway change has helped several of my co-workers too! If that was the case then perhaps all you had to do was enable the HTTP method. Anyways, glad to have been of help ^_^ Log in or register to post comments Translate Page Select LanguageEnglishAfrikaansAlbanianArabicArmenianAzerbaijaniBasqueBelarusianBulgarianCatalanCroatian
