Trillian on my windows machine connects just fine to MSN, so I dont suspect a network issue. My settings are: messenger.hotmail.com Port: 1863 Proxy type. Use environmental settings The "use HTTP method option results in it actually trying to connect, but it never does, it just says "connecting.....". I have attempted to change just about every other setting, with no luck. What could be going on? connection pidgin msn share|improve this question asked Dec 15 '14 at 0:52 Banquo 2113 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote If I were to guess, I'd say it stopped working slightly more than 6 weeks ago, when the MSN messenger network was closed down, so I don't know what Trillian is connecting to. Kopete works fine, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21281988/cannot-connect-to-apple-push-notification-server-with-telnet but I want to use pidgin instead. Any help will be appreciated. Also, are you behind a firewall that requires you connection error from to use a proxy to connect to MSN? DMzda (maz-ibrahim) said on 2008-08-02: #2 The server is: messenger.hotmail.com The port is: 1863 I am not sure about the third question, but I use ntlmaps to connect to an ISA proxy for other internet applications. Thanks. Guillaume Tremblay Beaumont (guizzy) said on 2008-08-02: #3 Well, you have the right server settings, so it's not that. Assuming it you've got the right login info, it is very likely to be related to your proxy. I am not too knowledgeable about ntlmaps, so I'm not too sure what I'm about to say is going to be much of a help. Let's check first if the port is really blocked. Try this: open up a terminal and run the following command: telnet messenger.hotmail.com 1863 What do you get when you try this?
