My local machine ip is 192.168.0.2. And in /etc/exports I have: /mnt/export 192.168.0.0/24(rw,async,no_subtree_check) /mnt/export *(rw) where /mnt/export is the directory I want to mount and I have chmod 777 -r the directory On my local machine I execute this command: mount 192.168.0.12:/mnt/export /Desktop/tes But get this error: can't mount /mnt/export from 192.168.0.12 onto /Desktop/tes: Connection refused Does anyone have any idea to where I am going wrong? linux networking mount nfs share|improve this question edited Jan 16 '13 at 1:03 Gilles 369k666681119 asked Jan 15 '13 at 10:33 Phorce 1451110 You sure the service is started? –warl0ck Jan 15 '13 at 10:37 @warl0ck Thanks for the reply. I assume of course that this isn't a strictly controlled production environment that can't be updated... I just noticed Go to Solution 14 Comments LVL 18 Overall: Level 18 Linux 1 Message Expert Comment by:Gary Davis2011-09-26 Connection Refused means that the attempt to connect to the port on the server is failing because nothing is listening on that port. It usually means the process is not running but it could mean that the wrong port is used. It could also be that the server is wrong, of course. Also, things could block the port like a firewall but I don't know if that would result in a Connection Refused. That message means your request reached the server (or some server) but the port is not bound. Gary Davis 0 LVL 4 Overall: Level 4 Linux 2 Linux Security 1 Linux Networking 1

Showmount -e on the server gives an error # showmount -e 192.168.1.2 Gives me: " clnt_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - Unable to send: errno 1 (Operation not permitted)" I have installed nfs-utils-1.2.3-r1 thus no separate portmapper is required and NFS is remote system error running. When trying to mount the same share on a HPUX workstation which is connected to the same server there is no problem in mounting the share. And showmount -e shows the exports file of the NAS correctly. I have a firewall (shorewall) which allows connection to and from the ports shown by rpcinfo -p. # rpcinfo -p program vers proto port 100000 4 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 3 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper 100000 4 udp 111 portmapper 100000 3 udp 111 portmapper 100000 2 udp 111 portmapper 100024 1 udp 32765 status 100024 1 tcp 32765 status 100005 1 udp 32767 mountd 100005 1 tcp 32767 mountd 100005 2 udp 32767 mountd 100005 2 tcp 32767 mountd 100005 3 udp 32767 mountd 100005 3 tcp 32767 mountd 100003 2 tcp 2049 nfs 100003 3 tcp 2049 nfs 100003 4 tcp 2049 nfs 100003 2 udp 2049 nfs 100003 3 udp 2049 nfs 100003 4 udp 2049 nfs 100021 1 udp 4001 nlockmgr 100021 3 udp 4001 nlockmgr 100021 4 udp 4001 nlockmgr 100
