flashed? Or I might have to fix something if I didn't flash it correctly... EDIT: also, i'm not sure if this is necessary. But my computer would not recognize the router unless I installed the software on the CD. Does that make any difference to the process for installing DD-WRT? Make sure you follow the instructions carefully when wrt54gl dd wrt repeater doing the v.8. They are more complicated than the GL was. Instructions for the v.8 should also be in the wiki. At this point, I would say it is just "not good". There may also be a newer/better flash for that router, I'm not sure which firmware is recommended at this time though. Flash that router with 11296, and make sure you do a hard reset before and after flashing. Then check that page again. Follow process in the peacock thread. Link to latest builds is there too. I have a Linksys WRT54GL, lately it's been finicky about allowing my laptop to connect wirelessly. Now http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?460672-Is-my-WRT54GL-dead when I CAN connect, the speed starts at 48-54 Mbps then drops down to 1 and finally just disconnects. I've tried a reset, a re-load of the firmware and have hado n luck. The REALLY odd part is that I can't change the channel in the router config, it's stuck on 6. Coincidentally, the card on my laptop does not pick up any other channel 6 networks in my area so it doesn't look like it's interference from other networks. I might try DD-WRT if someone thinks it'll help, but I'm not optimistic, I may end up with a new router. Last edited by mlevy; 12-20-2008 at 07:27 PM. Wow...no replies? I installed DD-WRT tonight, when trying to set my wireless settings I see errors on some entries. I think it's toast, guess I need to replace it. But, for the past couple of months, I have been having severe problems with wireless side. Last year, I bought a 2nd router (both are WRT54GL v1.1) and bridged the 2nd router to the 1st through wireless so that my kids can go online upstairs with their X-Box through one of the 2nd router's LAN ports. dd wrt wrt54gl In order to do this, I have to use a third-party firmware but I prefer DD-WRT over Tomato. Linksys, simply does not offer the settings that I need for advanced routing. The problem began where none of our electronics could connect to the 1st router. 3 laptops, a PSP, and the 2nd router all failed in its attempts. After tireless troubleshooting, including on the phone support from Linksys, I came to the conclusion that the 2 year router had failed. So I bought another from Newegg foolishly. After the first month and a half, things were fine... Up until this week, that is. My girlfriend and kids were having problems connecting again with the biggest problem of them all occurring last night. The laptops' connection speed was a dismal 5.5Mbps or LOWER and in the router's control panel, the speed was varying from 24Mbps-54Mbps.Now let me go over some of the things I've tried. I've tried changing channels... However, the router only works on channel 9 as of right now. Any other channel and I get errors with the transmitted packets. I've tried moving the laptops into the sam

But the router itself isn't dead; the ethernet ports are working fine and I can connect to the router control panel, ssh into it, etc. Even though a network should be up and running, it's not showing up when I try to log in to it from my computer (and it's not just invisible: either it doesn't exist, or it's rejecting all connection attempts even though the password is definitely correct). I've spent the last few hours trying to fix it and I'm getting frustrated because I can't find anything remotely resembling my problem anywhere on Google. Things I've tried that didn't work:Unplugging and replugging. Several times. Switching the channel (currently using 6). Changing ACK timing. Checked the MAC filter list; everything is as it should be. Searching Google and trying various things, none of which worked. Unfortunately I can't remember everything I tried. Basically, from within the dd-wrt control panel, almost everything looks like it should be working. The only thing that looks out of place is this little bit of info in the Status/Wireless tab:Received (RX) 0 OK, no error Transmitted (TX) 0 OK, 581 errorsThat TX error number keeps going up. I assume that means something's wrong, but I have no idea how to find out what. The only guess I have is that there might be a hardware problem with the antenna, but it seems very unlikely that this would coincide so closely with the initial reboot that started the problem. Can anyone help me with this? #2 (permalink) 08-13-2011, 04:07 AM TheTrippmeister Junior Member Join Date: Aug 2011 Posts: 2 UPDATE:
