I have set it up according to the configuration on the DD-WRT wiki, so the server IP is set to 192.168.1.1, which is the address of http://serverfault.com/questions/147130/dd-wrt-vpn-error-800 the router, and I set up the client addresses to be 192.168.1.20-29. My chap secrets are set up correctly, and still, I get an error 800 on windows XP. As far as I can tell, it means my network is unreachable. The server responds to ping. [Edit] If I manually edit the connection so that instead of "Automatic" I set it manually to "PPTP", it fails. I disabled the enforcing of security, and it still fails. vpn pptp router share|improve this question edited Jun 1 '10 at 15:06 asked Jun 1 '10 at 14:52 MrZombie 232315 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted Rebooting the rooter seemed to clear the problem. share|improve this answer answered Jun 1 '10 at 16:53 MrZombie 232315 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service. I have FTP (21) and HTTP (80) ports forwarded and those work fine.Had Zyxel 660R in router mode but was tired of troubleshooting two devices. Put Zyxel in bridge mode (following Embarq tech's instructions). However, I receive an 800 error when trying to dd wrt vpn connect to the VPN server. As I can look at the RRAS logs, I know that no VPN requests are reaching it. Also a port scan demonstrates that that the VPN port (1723) isn't open at all. That same port scan does show that my FTP & HTTP ports are open.I've config'd VPN via DD-WRT before and followed those same steps, but I appear to be missing something crucial. Solved VPN 'STILL' not working on WinXP VPN server (PPTP - ERROR 800) Posted on 2006-12-18 Networking Hardware Firewalls 5 Verified Solutions 13 Comments 3,656 Views Last Modified: 2009-03-14 I have read and tried just about everything, including this article... http://www.experts-exchange.com/Networking/Q_21251483.html?qid=21251483 I can connect to my server just fine with Remote Desktop Connection, however, I 'STILL' cannot connect to my VPN server (WinXP Pro SP2; D-Link DI-624 wireless router; hi-speed cable modem from comcast/time warner cable). All parameters seem to be correctly configured, such as... 1. router supports and is enabled for PPTP passthrough. 2. Port 1723 is open and ready on BOTH computers 3. I've tried just about every MTU packet setting 4. Remote server AND client computer's firewall settings enable PPTP. 5. Usernames are enabled on VPN server. 6. When I disable ping blocking (typically I leave "on"), I can ping my server, but strangely only 50% of the packets get through. Could this be part of the problem? 7. Obtain IP address automatically is "enabled" on VPN connection properties (on client computer) 7b. Server is configured to assign a static internal IP address for PPTP client computer (doesn't seem to help if I allow it to assign via DHCP. 8. Using default security settings on VPN connection properties on client computer 9. PPTP_GRE is enabled. 10. I have tried on two different client computers, both running Win XP Pro SP2. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 0 Question by:Yohanesine Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 12 Best Solution byImtiaz Hasham I would be weary of the firewall on the router.
