I took a look on my packing slip from July and it says I should have gotten somthing called Decoding Software, Power DVD, DIM. I think that is what you are referring to. They just got a nasty email. Geez. I have been working on this since 5 pm tonight eastern time. It is now 9:49 pm. Thanks. 2006. Guest Guest I have read all the posts here and googled everything related. Nvidia MPEG 2 Decoder installed. Yesterday when I installed Vista Ultimate RC1, The MC was working beautifully. Now I just keep on getting the same error: The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed I have installed other software which WILL play DVDs, but Media Centre will NOT. I have not seen any posts here that elaborate further on this issue. I really don't want to do a complete reinstall as I have been at this for over 24 hours solid. If I have the correct codec installed, why do I keep getting this error? Thanks. Guest, Nov 19, 2006 #1 Advertisements Guest Guest Quoting Naveen Thumpudi [MS]: "The reason for this behavior is that the 'trial period' on MPEG-2 codecs needed for MCE/DVD playback/burn has expired around 11/15/06 in Vista RC1 (I assume you are running Vista RC1). Using Vista RC2 (or RTM if you can get a handle on it) is the right solution for now. The codecs in final Vista release do not have such an expiration."
