from ebay but when I turn it on it has beeps which comes from the internal speaker. It is not proper beeps, it sounds as if the HDD were failing

all the time. I see disk activity 0.5 seconds after it boots up then it just starts beeping and fails to boot into XP. If you have the same problem and/or you would like to help please do!! As soon as you see the blue Dell logo, start tapping the ‘F12’ key which is at the top of the keyboard. Note:If you wait too long and the Microsoft Windows appears, then continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Now shutdown your computer and try again. I can't be of much help except maybe just make sure you have tried to boot without the main battery plugged in. Also try a different AC if you have one and different Ram.
