This is the goal. Well after installing the new hard drive I went

and set the laptop to boot from CD. Well I never saw the message to press any key to boot from disc and eventually this message popped up: ''No bootable devices - strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility. Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics'' So I ran the onboard diagnostics and I received this message: CD Rom test: Test results: Failed Error Code 0152 Msg: Error Code 2000-0152 Msg : Optical dell optiplex 760 error lights 3 4 drive 0 - incorrect status: 1A But that was with the CD in the drive. When I took it out and ran the diagnostics it passed twice. Anyone have any clue why it isnt reading the disc? Also, I see I have the option of booting with USB. Is it possible to install Windows via flash drive? Thanks for any help! 04-15-2011, 09:37 AM ComputerGuy Location: Away 207 posts, read 634,683 times Reputation: 207 First thing I would do is check the BIOS and make sure that the CD/DVD is the first bootable device. I just re-read what you said and it looks like you did set it to boot from CD/DVD. In that case I would get another copy of Windows (if you have your own copy), just to see if it will boot from a different CD. I would also take the CD that you are attempting to boot from and put it into a computer that is working to see if you can see and browse all the files on the disc. You can install windows from a flash drive, although I have never attempted it on Windows XP, and I don't know if XP supports it. Your other option is to try an external CD, or check with the laptop manufacturer for either the
