Basic dialup error troubleshooting No matter which error you encounter, the following steps may prove useful: Check for outages in your area. Make sure your landline isn't engaged with a fax or phone call. Restart your computer. Check your computer for any viruses or other malware. If you're not sure how to do this, please contact support for your antivirus software provider. Check the manufacturer's tech specs for your dialup modem to confirm it's compatible with your operating system. This may be useful if you have an old dialup modem but a very new operating system - your modem may not have been tested for compatibility with the latest software if that software didn't exist when the modem was manufactured. Most manufacturers will test compatibility as new software releases, unless the product is End of Life or the manufacturer has ceased operations. Reinstall your dialup modem. Perform a winsock reset. More specific troubleshooting may be listed under your error in the list below. Dialup errors Finding something in this list While looking at this web page, hold down the CTRL key (PC) o

Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement Myhistory1 Thread Starter Joined: Mar 7, 2005 Messages: 3 I am unable to add and ISP to my computer. The install goes well until the end and then I get the error message 624: The system could not update the phone book file. I've tried to manually add it, and that doesn't work. The internet connection wizard says: it "could not configure your computer for the internet. It says I will need to set up my own TCP/IP https://iihelp.iinet.net.au/Dialup_errors protocols, Dial-up Networking, and modem, ISDN line, or other device that you use to dial out from your computer" How do I do that? Have you checked the IPS supports site for instructions on connecting? wrs Old Rich, Mar 13, 2005 #2 Myhistory1 Thread Starter https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-unable-to-add-isp-error-624.340762/ Joined: Mar 7, 2005 Messages: 3 Hello, and thank you for responding to my question, you are the only one who has. I have tried to add the isp through my "Add a connection" Wizard which asks that I add the Isp name and phone number, type of connection, etc. But it comes up with an error that says it cannot update the phone book file. I have contacted the isp's help and tech support for instructions on connecting to no avail. They all suggest I re-install the software, which goes all the way through until it comes time to create the connection in my registry and then I get the error message 624. I have changed access numbers and added new locations until I'm blue in the face. I have an earthlink connection that I used when I first got my computer (when adding an ISP was not a problem) and had to return to it and start a new account because it was the only connection in my registry. I had a high speed dsl connection at one time which loaded just fine. But was unable to afford the higher fees and went back to dial up. Can you suggest anything that I have not tried? Do you know what the error message means? I appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you. Myhistory1 Myhistory1, Mar 25, 2005 #3 Old Rich Joined: Ja

I can't get onto Juno Web because it can't create a dialup. Has anyone found a solution to dial up error this? 0 vnasrollahi 10 Years Ago I guess I have the same problem with not being able to update the phone book. I can't get onto Juno Web because it can't create a dialup. Has anyone found a solution to this? To resolve this issue, first locate the Rasphone.pbk file and make sure that the read-only file property in the Properties dialog box is not selected. If it is not selected, the file may be damaged and you must rename the Pbk folder to Pbk.old. The Pbk folder is located in the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Connections" folder. If you cannot see the Pbk folder, make sure that you can see hidden files and folders. To do so, follow these steps: 1. Click Start , click My Computer, and then click Folder Options on theTools menu. 2.Click the View tab. 3.Click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK. 0 janakakus 8 Years Ago I guess I have the same problem with not being able to update the phone book. Phone Book access problem - Error 624 Phone Book access problem - Error 624 New 25 Mar 2007 #1 Dave Bolt Guest Phone Book access problem - Error 624 I have just set up a broadband dialup on a new Vista PC. There are now three dial-ups on the machine, but none of them will remember the password and all users option. I did eventually get one of the connectoids to remember the password and this user. Vista was giving an error 624, Cannot update phonebook. There are two users, at least one is an administrator. The only knowledge base article I found related to XP, and was aimed primarily at being unable to create the phonebook. Any ideas? Thanks Dave My System Specs You need to have JavaScript enabled so that you can use this ... New 17 Aug 2009 #2 lippo Guest Re: Phone Book access problem - Error 624 I had the same problem. Finally I managed to rid of it by copying the rasphone.pbk - file from my friends' computer, which also had Vista OS. I replaced my (damaged?) rasphone.pbk file with the new one and internet started working. I'm using the E169-model of Huawei usb-modem (Virgin Broadband). The rasphone.pbk-file is in "C:\Users\All Users\Microsoft\Network\Connections\Pbk" I also restarted my computer for a number of times and installed some updates, so I really don't know which one really did the trick...
