676 - The line is busy. All versions of Windows - This error can occur if: You are dialing the wrong number There is a problem at dial in modem sound your ISP or in the telephone network You have voice-mail or other dsl error 676 custom calling feature that produces a stutter dial-tone You haven't specified the proper country settings for your modem broadband error 676 and the number you are dialing, or your modem doesn't support the country you are in. If you include the disable call waiting code in your dialing, and your phone line dial up error 678 does not support call waiting; or, if you have call waiting, but your phone company doesn't support the disable call waiting code. Check the settings for the DUNS Connectoid you are using. If you have voice-mail or other custom-calling feature that produces stuttered dial-tone, you may be able to eliminate the problem by disabling dial-tone or busy detection: Add x to extra

settings to disable busy and dial-tone detection; add x2 to extra settings to disable only busy detection. If your modem doesn't offer support for your country, disabling dial-tone/busy detection (x in extra settings) might work (only if tone or pulse dialing for selected country is compatible with yours). Use modem's speaker to listen to connection attempt: Make sure it dials, and make sure you do not hear a busy signal. Examine Modemlog to see what number is actually being dialed. (If # dialed is not displayed, adding E1 to extra settings may help.) Try dialing with pulse instead of tone; Try increasing the tone duration. [ s11=120 ] Windows NT - Error 676 line busy is reported when you should receive a 'No Dial Tone' 680 error. This was first correct in SP6. I uninstalled and then rebooted and it dial up found the modem and installed it. I tried to dial up again and it was the same thing 676 line busy. I went to control panel> phone and modem and went in where you can query the modem and got answers back . and also it says it is working properly. The only thing I can think of is if something else is trying to dial out or use the modem and making it busy. I guess this dial up error is my question now I am not at her house anymore she lives about 80 miles from here but if I can get an answer I will call her and take her throught it. In her device manager she show com1, com2, and LPT1 Her modem is on com3 Would it help and/or can I go into device manager and uninstall the com1 and com2 and then reboot and will that reinstall them and if so do you think that would help?? This problem started I guess when she was going to get DSL and her ISP I guess sent her the stuff, the external modem, etc and then they said she waas to far away. I think she tried to hook it up. I was not there. But when I looked at it today everything was back where it belonged and she never had a problem before she messed with the dsl stuff. Can someone tell me if that would help?? I and she called the dial up number and it is not busy.. After reading this what would be my next logical step??
