Add any custom prefix or suffix number to the ISP number, if required. Ensure with the local telephone company that the numbers you are using to dial to your ISP are local numbers. Method 3: Remove, reinstall, and then configure your modem Open Device Manager. Expand Modems. Right-click on your modem and select Uninstall. Note: Use a registry tool, such as RegServe, to clean your registry and remove any left behind modem entries. Restart your PC. Your system will automatically scan for new hardware and install the new modem. You may need to insert the Windows XP setup or the modem driver CD to make the driver files available to the modem driver installation process. Open Control Panel. Select Network and Internet Connections and then select Phone and Modems in the left pane. Open the Modems tab in the Phone and Modems dialog box. Select your modem and then click Properties.
