exchanged it for another which did the same thing 2 weeks later. So I went online to research some other brands and found that some people were having the same problem with an Emerson. We think it is cheap parts, and we are refusing to buy another one until they can fix the problem. I would recommend the same, or buy an extended warranty, but be careful. Most of the extnded warranties will only replace the unit once with the same piece of junk and then they consider the warrany "fulfilled" Hope this helps. Also, the first one we owned was about 3 years ago, when the dvd player was separate from the two screens, and that one lasted about a year, and the kids were very rough with it. I dont remember the brand , but we got it from Wal-Mart. Reply to this post Permalink | Report abuse 1 of 2 people think this post adds to the discussion. Do you? After getting home and putting her to bed, I decided to go out and fiddle with the DVD player some more to try and figure it out. Every single DVD I put in just kept giving the same "Disc Check" error. I put a couple CDs into the player, and they played j

Verify that the batteries in the remote are fresh. Verify that the infrared remote sensor is not obstructed. Verify remote control mode (See dvd player page 4). Why won't the disc play or why does it say "Wrong Region" on the AVXMTG10UA? Insert a disc with the label side facing up towards the headliner. Check the type of the disc you put into the disc tray. If the regional code doesn't match, the disc can't be played. Why does a "No Disc" error message display on the AVXMTG10UA? Insert a disc with the label side facing up towards the headliner. Why does play start but then stop immediately on the AVXMTG10UA? The disc is dirty. Clean it. The disc is damaged. Try another disc. Condensation has formed. Allow player to dry out. Why isn't there any sound or why is the sound distorted on the AVXMTG10UA? Make sure your DVD is connected properly. Make sure all cables are securely inserted into the appropriate jacks.
