Dvd Player That Plays Scratched Discs
for the kids.It needs to be fast and great with scratched disks. By "fast" I mean power up time and the time it takes to get from DVD insertion to playing a DVD. I prefer HDMI for the simple cable management but as long as is progressive w. component outputs the IQ should be the same (?). Or is upscaling no longer total BS?I really like the circa Y2K panasonic DVD player we are using now. It is great samsung sh-216bb with scratched disks, really quick to start playing a DVD (stop stop play trick often works). I'd not be shopping execept it is having problems with some new DVDs. I checked out panasonic's latest model, the S58 and it looks like a POS compared to my old tank. Price should be around $50 but I'm willing to go higher for better handling with scratched disks. I don't need DIVX, region free, awesome IQ or whatever else used to differentiate between DVD players. Just rock solid fast scratch tolerant. I'd consider moving up to a BluRay player IF it got me crazy better scratch tolerance/Speed with DVDs.Thanks! gorice Ars Tribunus Angusticlavius Tribus: Adrift in the Roaring Forties Registered: Nov 7, 2000Posts: 7704 Posted: Wed Jul 21, 2010 6:15 am Interesting request. I didn't know there were good, scratch-tolerant players.I ended up banning the kids from using original "master" DVDs, and only letting them loose on copies I made with DVDShrink. Otherwise, I just rip everything to a media centre, which has the added bonus of bypassing all those federal warnings about piracy.Perhaps invest in a scratch-removal machine? I know my local video store has one, and I think they routinely unleash it on rental kids DVDs. I guess it's similar to those $50 CD de-scratchers? trikster2 Ars Praefectus Registered: Jul 12, 2002Posts: 3295 Posted: Wed Jul 21, 2010 7:47 am I've thought of breaking/abusing the law and ripping/r

I've had the best luck with players that use a Philips-made swing-arm CD drive. Those disc drives coast through scratches and other defects that bring lesser drives to their knees, and they have no trouble playing CD-Rs (but not CD-RWs). There are many different makes and models of players that use these drives. Unfortunately most of them a
