Using your usb plug for the optical drive as an external drive seems to be a problem. The computer works with the optical drive as an external drive but the application DVD https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/174327/SOLVED+-+DVD+Drive+could+not+be+found+Error+-70012 player is unable to initialize it therefore it will not play anything in the drive. Mechanically the drive works. Nothing gets stuck etc. Rebooting and using a different usb port makes no difference. Error is- A valid DVD drive could not be found.
