Use a lint-free cloth and some denatured alcohol or water to clean the disc and remove any dust or smudges that may prevent the player from reading it properly. Distorted or no picture¶ Make sure the proper input/output cables are plugged into the correct ports- red cord into the red port, yellow cord into the yellow port, white cord into the white port.Check your TV settings to ensure that it is on the proper mode.Sometimes a small amount of distortion may appear due to the disc. This is not a problem with the player. This would likely be evidenced by very occasional skipping issues.The DVD may be dirty or scratched- insert a clean DVD to make sure it isn't just the disc. The disc reading lens may be dirty or damaged- see our repair guide here. Most likely the symptoms of this would be that the picture is skipping and stopping randomly.
