InstallShield Express 3.53 appears to have a problem with paths of the form: 'Drive:\Program Files\Company Name Inc\ProductID\Version\bin", when that path is entered into the 'Change Current Destination Folder' dialog. When the path is entered with parenthesis, "Error 1314. The specified path ... is unavailable" is returned. When entered without parenthesis, "Error 1317. An error occurred while attempting to create the directory Drive:\Program Files." is generated. The last message is displayed at the 'Installing ProductID' dialog, presumably, because the directory already exists. In each of the above two cases, only the drive letter differed from the default INSTALLDIR value. However, when I indicate that I want to change the installation path but do NOT change the default INSTALLDIR value, the install completes successfully. The problem is that InstallShield is selecting the INSTALLDIR value, and prevents users from changing it. This omission seems to be caused by a failure to check for the existance of directories before attempting to create them; and/or, a failure to check the value of the return code from CreateDirecto

Re: Impossible to install VMWare Workstation 8 on Windows 7 continuum Jan 10, 2012 2:16 PM (in response to dafunker) Hi and welcomeI would try this ...open regedit as adminfind the key VMware, Inc - on 32 bit hosts that is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.it has a subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\Installer\VMware Workstationwith a subkey DATASTORE_PATH which uses a value like "G:\\shared-vms"If you preset that to a path that fits your needs the install may work. While you are at it ... check permissions on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.VMware Workstation installers like to mess up permissions for that key Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions 2. My issue relates to installing the msi's directed at IIS. I keep getting the following error Error 1314. The specified path 'Default Web Site/ROOT/someVirtual' is unavailable. The Internet Information Server might not be running or the path exists and is redirected to another machine. Please check the status of this virtual directory in the Internet Services Manager. The msi gets executed with the following parameters set as follows msiexec.exe /i "D:\SOME.msi" UseShellExecute="false" TARGETSITE="Default Web Site" TARGETVDIR="someVirtual" TARGETAPPPOOL="DefaultAppPool" /qn /l* D:\SOME_log.txt I realize this issue is stricly IIS related as I'm probably missing some setting/option that i need to setup. As far as I can see my virtual is in this location "NT4334RB\Sites\Default Web Site\someVirtual", so my best guess would be that "Default Web Site/ROOT/someVirtual" - ROOT is the issue and needs to be set, but to what? and how? I just came across this line in the logfile - I think this might be of use? MSI does not natively support IIS so this functionality is provided by custom logic. I see that you are running the apps silently. It might be useful to run them interactively and double check all the properties that
