again, I got this error: Error 1328. Error applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PTxx.tmp. error 1328 adobe reader It has probably been updated by other means and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information error 1328 config.msi quickbooks contact your patch vendor. Apparently, Adobe Reader 11.1 is distributed internally as two MSIs: "Adobe Reader 11”, plus a patch to bring 11.0 to 11.1. After turning on MSI logging, I could see http://payroll.intuit.com/support/kb/1000198.html that the temporary installer files were going to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Setup\{GUID}. The solution, in my case, was to go to that location, run AcroRead.msi manually, run AdbeRdrUpd11001.msp manually (which failed), and then go to the control panel to uninstall Adobe Reader. After that, running the official setup program (from http://get.adobe.com/reader/) worked. Additional things I did along the way that may have helped, but I don’t think were required: http://www.leeholmes.com/blog/2013/01/14/resolving-adobe-reader-error-1328updated-by-other-means/ Manually deleted files left behind in ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0’. To do this, I had to take ownership of the files, and manually give myself permission to delete them. Manually deleted a bunch of .tmp files from ‘C:\Config.msi\…’ that were time stamped from around the time I was doing this installation. Manually deleted a few MSIs from ‘C:\Windows\Installer"’ that were time stamped from around the time I was doing this installation. I tried running Adobe’s own cleaner software to try and totally remove any trace of it because every time I try and download it the download starts

This error can happen during the repair process, as well as other times when installing, updating, or uninstalling any version of QuickBooks, not just Enterprise. Most of the time this error is harmless and if "Ignore" is continually selected, the process will complete successfully. The message received usually refers to a specific file. The error looks something like: c:\config.msi\PT**.TMP. The file name in the error message may not be the same as shown here, but the C:\config.msi\ path will be the same. While this may seem repetitive, there are actually two possible situations to resolve shown here. The difference is the way the Error 1328 presents itself with the option buttons. Situation 1: If the Error 1328 contains the buttons Abort, Retry, and Ignore the first step is to rename the config.msi folder on the computer. Temporary (.tmp) files in the config.msi folder prevent QuickBooks from finishing the process it is using. The config.msi folder is a temporary repository for storing scripts needed to roll back an installation if it fails. Once the program installs correctly, the contents of this folder are deleted. Sometimes they are unable to be removed, so they become stuck. Once they are stuck, they can cause problems with QuickBooks repairing or updating itself. To locate the config..msi file, follow the steps below: Open Windows Explorer (right-click on the Start button and select Explore) Double-click on the C: drive Show hidden files and folders (Tools > Folder Options > Select View tab >Hidden files and folders > select Show hidden files and folders > Click Apply and OK) Show protected operating system files (Tools > Folder Options > Select View tab > Deselect Hide protected operating system files > Click Apply and OK) Right-click config.msi and select Rename Add .old to the end of the filename and press Enter (the filename should now be Config.msi.old)
