Blackveiled Formerly, Ban-Lord (Note: I am new to this program, lol. I usually format with MS-DOS, but I wanted to do something a bit quicker) Alright, basically, trying to format the partition (NTFS) of my external USB harddrive (WD 2500AAJ External USB Harddrive 250gb) with PartitionMagic, so I can give it support with the FAT32 filesystem also, along with the NTFS file system. But PartitionMagic looks at my external harddrive as a "BAD" drive: Also, whenever I try to create a new partition on the "BAD" drive, it tells me I cannot. Also, when I right click the "BAD" drive (my USB Harddrive), it gives me the only option to "Format". Now, heres where I get to the problem. Everything goes alright until I get to the part where I am actually formatting the drive, when my computer boots up and loads Windows XP, then PartitionMagic, I get this error, called Error #4, Code: Error 4 while executing BatchError 4 Bad argument / parameter Does anybody have an idea what the problem could be? Operating System: Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 Blackveiled, Jul 1, 2008 #1 enouwee Non ex transverso sed deorsum Is it a pretty recent model of a Seagate external disk? If so, the answer is: you can't (easily) put anything beside NTFS on it. EDIT: hmmm, no. WD looks more like Western Digital. Did you already try to throw away the partition and re-create it? Did you make sure that no applications have files of that disk in use? enouwee, Jul 1, 2008 #2 Blackveiled Formerly, Ban-Lord enouwee said: ↑ EDIT: hmmm, no. WD looks more like Western Digital. Using the Merge or Split functions is a good way to lose your partitions. Avoid them like the plague. I suggest moving as much data as possible from your D: drive to your C: drive. But don't have C: drive more than 85% full. Move the remainder of D: drive data to another storage medium. From PM boot media, de
with Partition Magic it says the hard drive is "BAD" It doesn't format it because some error occurs. I was wondering if there was anyway to fix this drive or if it's just trash now. Here http://www.overclockers.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-89901.html is all the info I could gather from Partition Magic. Partition Table error #110. I try to partition it and it says "Error # 4 Bad argument/parameter" Partition type: BAD First physical sector: 0 Last physical sector: 12,534,479 Total physical sectors: 12,534,480 Physical geometry: 829 cyls, 240 hds, 63 sects I have no idea what most of this stuff means, any help would be appreciated. AudiMan05-20-02, 01:32 AMThe only thing that I can think of error 4 is to download software from the manufacturers website and do a low level format on it,,, or a high level format, I forget which one, but its a different type of format than what partition magic or windows uses. Lochreas05-20-02, 01:39 AMHmmmmm I'll see what I can find... thanks Lochreas05-20-02, 01:49 AMThat's going to be a bit hard since it's a Quantum, and they don't do hard drives anymore! Also this is about years old, it's error 4 bad the 5.25 size that fits in a cd-rom slot and is only 6 gigs.... Their site has changed to their new products, so I don't know where I'll be able to get support! ThePerfectCore05-20-02, 06:30 AMIs it a Bigfoot drive? thefly05-20-02, 02:23 PMhttp://www.powerquest.com/support/primus/id16.cfm Solution: Error 110 Partition table number of sectors is inconsistent To correct Error #110, you should back up all data on the disk (or what data can still be accessed), delete all the partitions, and recreate the partitions using the computer, controller, and BIOS settings that you intend to use. There are instances of this error that are correctable without the aforementioned destruction of data. Run a PartInfo and contact PowerQuest Technical Support. They can diagnose your specific problem and recommend a course of action. (Click here for information on how to run a PartInfo.)To understand Error #110, you must understand a little about the partition tables. Each entry contains redundant information, once in CHS (cylinder, head, sector) format and then again in LBA (logical block address) format. When the two don't agree, PartitionMagic reports Error #110. This error can be critical, depending on how it occurred. On SCSI drives, Error #110 can occur when you switch SCSI controllers or change settings on the SCSI controller. This renders the CHS values invalid, while the LBA values are still correct.
